I would say the sound on the Ascend 2 is just slightly tinny, but it's hard to compare to other phones without having one to A/B test...

Yah I've been to four Walmarts in the past few days, one of the Walmarts only had (3) phones, another had four but only 1 smartphone, this last one I went to had an incredible selection. They had like 8 Smart Phones and 3 Androids, as well as the Motorola $40 non-smart phone. They pretty much had nearly every single phone that is available for ST right now. I also noticed their selection had greatly changed in the past 2 weeks.

Also, the prices aren't always the same between different Walmarts, sometimes they have different phones discounted.

Straight Talk CS does suck, their CS process is irritating, it's not the CS fault, it's the way their system was designed more than anything else. They mis-activated my phone to a different number and I lost the old number temporarily at least, I am waiting for the old number to come back (after 3 calls to CS), they said it might take 24 hours.

    We shall see...

My Walmart carries all their androids, plus the Nokia e71 and Nokia e5 even. They only have one feature phone. And that proclaim has a red map, proves its Verizon.

For my Ascend 2 checking inside the Phone status itself for Info, it says:

    Mobile Network Type
    CDMA - EvDo rev. A,

I'm guessing that means Verizon. My phone was not listed in any of those previous links (it is NOT on ST's site anywhere that I can see).

HUAWEI Ascend II - $100 from Walmart
    Android 2.3.6 (checked from phone)
    3.5" Touch Screen
    4GB SD Card
    5 MP Camera/Recorder
    600MHz Processor with 3G

How do you have an Ascend II on straight talk? I don't see it anywhere.

DARN -- Yah, it is Sprint, I just sent (2) emails to it using the proprietary Sprint and Verizon suffixes. I may go back and get the more expensive Galaxy then, although I didn't want to spend anymore cash really and this phone does work well (but with Verizon I should get better coverage at my place).

Only the Sprint one came through to the Phone...

I did Four Speed Tests on MobileSpeedTest.com (I know this isn't as good as installing a speed test app)...

    The results were pretty lame...

200Kbps was the slowest, 600Kbps was the fastest.

Average was 400-500 Kbps over 4 tests for this Sprint Phone

    That was in Houston-TX area.

Just got my Samsung Prclaim and YES it si definitely on verizon. Even the map on the front of the ST box is in red (just like the first ST phone boxes when they only had verizon). When you make a mistake on calling you get the verizon recording as well.

Now for the phone this is my first android phone although i have had a tablet so somewhat familar with android etc. the phone sets up pretty easily , i switched my ST number from a $30.00 a month phone to it so first had to upgrade to the unlimited plan which i knew before. It took quite awhile to get the number from one phone to the other not sure if tech support was real busy or what. Finally it worked. Added the password for my home wifi which really made the net speedy. The 3g lite shows when you are on the faster network on wireless and it is reasonably quick. The wifi in the Proclaim picks up the wifi in the house better than my tablet. The one negative I seem to have is the when typing or using the number pad it seems the alignment is off a bit I have to touch a bit higher on the number or letter or get the wrong one. Not sure if there is a way to align the screen or not.

There were actually a couple posts in the forum about the Ascend 2 coming to ST soon, so someone knew it was "coming soon". I am not happy that it is Sprint, I will probably go back to get the more expensive Samsung. The phone is awesome, but Sprint's service isn't the best from my area, and their data is sub-1Mbps most of the time. I am sure it will appear in more Walmarts soon, I went to 4 different Walmarts before I found one that had a LOT of Smart Phones, so you have to be persistent if going to buy one from a Walmart. I am pretty sure this is still the best phone I've ever seen for only $100 (especially with 3.5" screen), the phone appears to be very robust and free of bugs. The battery life does suck though, that is the only real downfall, but not sure how much it could be improved by being rooted.
