I know, I know. ST does not allow tethering. But I am not wanting to be a data hog. No streaming. Just a little surfing on my laptop. Maybe 1G a month. Has anyone ever tethered an ST Proclaim. I have been told that no rooting is required. Of course this post will trigger an email from an ST rep. telling me I cannot do this!
I tethered all the time with my e71 and never had a problem. They really don't care so long as your usage and your usage RATE are not too high.
Try plugging in the phone to your laptop by USB and see if you can tether that way. If not then you may need a third party app to tether as a hot spot.
I had a buddy at work put foxfi on a Precedent. ST had the phone "rigged" to create a major error when he activated the hot spot feature. I think you can still make calls, but lose all data. Most prepaid carriers are that way now. A hard reset and a couple of days working on the phone got it usable but it still was popping up errors and buggy from that point on. Virgin Mobile does the same thing with the Optimus Slider, V, and I assume with the newer models that have come out.

My wife uses Foxfi on her Proclaim for very light duties. She averages with and without Foxfi about 30-40 mbs/day.
It does work very very nicely on the Proclaim. Im still thinking about getting one as Edge is making me nuts on TMO. Glad you can get it to work, much nicer then PDA Net I have used for years.
