iPhone 5 -- SIM card compatibility

Has anyone tried using a PC mobile SIM card in an iPhone 5?
The metal contact plate on the SIM seems large, and I'm not sure if it would be possible
to cut it down to a nano SIM size without damaging it.

Only one way to find out.

PC says if you damage your card you can just buy another for $10.

iPhone 5 -- SIM card compatibility

I recently bought a couple of new T-Mobile SIM's to use in my iPhone 5 that had the larger size contact area (compared to other SIM's I've used). In order to cut it down to a nano SIM, some of the contact area wound up getting chopped off on each end. It made absolutely no difference. I popped the nano SIM in the iPhone 5's metal SIM tray and it works perfectly. Remember that the microchip in the SIM is much smaller than the contact area, so unless the contacts get shorted out on something, it should work.

FYI, I do use an inexpensive SIM cutter which I acquired on eBay. It saves a lot of time, error, and does a great job of making clean cuts.

I'm told that the micro SIM tray in the Nexus 4 is metal, so if the SIM you cut has a large contact area it might cause problems against the tray. The poster of that issue reported that putting a very thin and narrow layer of insulating tape around the SIM got it working.
