    Samsung unveils 8 core chip

Just saw this over at Tom's. Samsung just announced the Exynos5 Octa. An 8-core processor for mobile devices. It uses ARM's big.little technology which pairs a low performance Cortex A-7 with a powerful Cortex A-15 core. Does that mean the Exyno5 Octa has 4 Cortex A-15 cores and 4 Cortext A-7 ones? Or in other words, 4 fast ones and 4 slow ones?

The idea is that the slow A-7 cores handle the little tasks while the A-15's handle big ones. That way the least amount of battery power is used.

Regardless, 8 cores is going to be a powerful marketing tool - How cool would it be if the Galaxy S4 had 8 cores? Well, that is unless everyone else comes out with 8 core phones too.

So what's the advantage to having 8 cores on a phone?

Maybe it would make the Google and the vzw PMI data mining routines less obtrusive?
