Question iPhone CDMA Unlocked Or No?

My friend's boyfriend has the iPhone on Verizon's network paying $110 a month. He was thinking of taking it to Sprint's service but I know that both of them are CDMA can you unlock CDMA phones and put it on other CDMA networks?

The short answer is no. But if its an iPhone 5, its GSM capabilities would be unlocked, so he could use it with a carrier such as Straight Talk or Net10's bring your own device program, which would work on att or t mobile.

Regardless of the unlock, a Verizon phone cannot be activated on Sprint, and vice versa. Neither carrier will activate a non carrier branded phone onto their network. They only allow their respective branded phones onto their network.

As mentioned, it could be taken to Straight Talk, MetroPCS, Page Plus, etc. He would need to check compatibility of the phone with their network before hand though.

Like Heavy Fluid said, Sprint will not activate any phone that they did not originally sell. They track them by MEID (an electronic serial number that goes out over the air every time you use the phone). It is virtually impossible to change the MEID number on an iPhone.

With GSM phones, locking/unlocking is functionality implemented on the phone (which SIMs it will accept). With CDMA, the locking is implemented by the carriers by restrictions on which MEID (serial number) phones they will activate. With CDMA, there is no concept of locking or unlocking a device.
