    iPhone 5 Sim Slot?

Is the Sprint iPhone 5 unlocked to USA Carriers? AT&T/T-Mobile? for the GSM sim card slot?

I have someone that could not pay his bill, so he had a BAD ESN iPhone 5 and will take $150-200 for it. Does the Sim Slot work inside the USA? I know the 4S does, But not sure about the 5 and thats a hella deal!
    Main Phone: iPhone 13 Pro

He is right. It's locked for USA but can be unlocked with an interposer like rsim or gpp. I'm not sure which is the best sim though....

...And under Sprint's current policies, IT NEVER WILL BE. Unless you take matters into your own hands and unlock it yourself, it will never be usable with a domestic SIM. I plan to challenge this come October when my Sprint iPhone 4S is off contract (and when I think Sprint will be trying to convince me to upgrade for another brick).

The Verizon iPhone 5 is fully unlocked because it supports specific LTE bands that came with government restrictions regarding open access. Verizon was forced to provide fully unlocked phones that access that band. Sprint does not have frequencies with restrictions so they do not have to provide unlocked devices..

Ok..if you don't like that answer...it does work.

But it actually doesn't. Sprint is not Verizon.

What's wrong with what lilotimz said. He gave you the right answer and you are telling him not post. You could have got the answer yourself by a simple search but you chose not to do that and you are complaining when someone gave you a 100% correct answer. What's wrong with you?

Sent from an unlocked Rogers LG Optimus G with LTE 2600MHz Band or with an unlocked Bell Optimus G with AWS 1700MHz LTE on the Shared Bellus LTE/HSPA + Network

    Hi all,

Let me contribute what I know about this. Because I posted and searched a lot for the correct answer for this.

    Verizon iPhone5 :

Of all the carriers who offer iPhone5 in the USA, Verizon's iPhone5 has the best or the nearest unlocked capabilities, meaning, it will work on other LTE Bands as well. It is the only truly unlocked Phone other than the one You get from Walmart if You want to go with Straight Talk which once again uses the Verizon Network.

Yes Guys, Straight Talk, iPhone5 is not GSM or uses SIM, It uses, Verizon's Network and it will work as a CDMA Phone.

Coming to AT&T, its kind of, locked, but can be unlocked. But it does not have the capability to function in wide range of bands like the Verizon Version.

Coming to the Sprint, it is a completely different story. For other Phones, they embed the SIM inside the Phone. For iPhone5, the Sprint System will work like this. Even though You remove the LTE SIM card from the Phone, it will work on 3G, that said, You can make calls, receive texts, and even browse the internet at 3G speeds. But if You try to put it in another Device, the SIM will not work. The SIM will only work in a iPhone5 registered on the Sprint System.
Even after You put the SIM back in the iPhone5, You have to restart the phone for it to work again. Also, if You Put the SIM in another Device and mess with it, the SIM will be useless. You have to go to a Sprint Store or Apple Store to get a new Sprint LTE SIM Card.
That said, You cannot, use it, with other carriers. But, once again, if You unlock Your boundaries might expand, but not sure, how far. Definitely, You cannot use it on AT&T or Verizon or US Cellular Networks, because, their bands are different.

So guys please correct me if I'm wrong.

HoFo is a place to share information, So please share.

    Peace qzmpal

    ...
For Sprint (and Verizon) 3G, there is no SIM, embedded or otherwise. CDMA uses the same registration process as the original analog AMPS system and early TDMA systems; carrier registration of the device's ESN. There was a SIM like device created for CDMA systems called the R-UIM (Removable User Identity Module) but it was never adopted in the United States. Most likely because it would transfer device control from the carrier to the subscriber and give subscribers more freedom to choose the device they want to use (a big no-no in the locked in world of Verizon and Sprint).

As noted, removing the LTE SIM from a Sprint or Verizon phone still allows it work with 3G because of the way the phone is registered for 3G versus LTE service. On a GSM based system, such as T-Mobile or AT&T, removing the SIM effectively removes the subscriber information from the phone.

I wouldn't count on it to work. All of the 4 major will be or are sharing information on blacklisted devices. Since each wireless carrier will have different circumstances on why each carrier will blacklist devices its a matter of putting in a domestic SIM card in and seeing if the device will work or not. All of the iPhone 5 models (A1428 US AT&T, A1429 CDMA and A1429 Overseas) have quad band GSM/DC HSPA+ radios.
