    Obamacare

Just wondering if the governments failure to be able to implement the ACA and with costs going up as many predicted are there any supporters of this who wished we had been able to read it before it was passed to find out what was in it or is support still going strong for this thing?

what is this new feature, and how can I manipulate it in order to make myself seem superior to those around me?

How are costs going up? Any evidence of this?

Not sure if google doesn't work for you or what but I can show you the cost increases of my personal premiums for the last several years if you'd like. Granted, costs go up every year but the rate of increase for the last several was a few percentage points higher than past years and definitely did not decrease as we were told would happen if we just went with the ACA and gave in.

Your premium increase is a direct result of your ins co increasing it, not because of the ACA. The law isn't even in effect yet and your premium increase! Why?

Several parts of the law are in effect and why did my insurance company raise its rates? The simple answer is in anticipation of the rest of the law going into effect. Ever asked yourself why this law was 15000 pages and hasn't seemed to have any positive effects for most people when they could have passed a law that simply allowed purchase of health insurance across state lines that could have been written on the back of a mickeyd's receipt but yet none of the representatives of either party introduced that as part of the debate? That would have opened up competition between health insurance companies and forced prices and profit margins down but no one thought of that? How about ending the tax break your employer gets for providing part of the cost of your health insurance or allowing you to opt out of their preprovided plan and take the amount they contribute to spend on whatever policy you wanted?

Several parts of the law are in effect and why did my insurance company raise its rates?

"Many Obamacare provisions are intended to protect Americans from the private insurance industry, such as measures to prevent insurers from denying coverage to Americans with pre-existing conditions and to keep rising insurance premium rates in check. Nevertheless, as the New York Times reports, some of America’s largest insurers are exploiting a lack of stringent oversight in Obamacare to hike their premiums by double-digits anyway. Insurers like Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross are requesting rate hikes as steep as 26 percent — amounting to hundreds of dollars that Americans will be forced to pay in higher premiums every month — in states such as California and Florida, and there is little that states can currently do to stop them"........Large insurers claim that the hikes are necessary in order to keep up with general medical inflation. But since medical inflation has actually been relatively low in recent years, this claim falls flat. Insurers may actually be raising their rates in an attempt to counteract other Obamacare consumer protection measures such as the “80/20 rule” that requires insurance companies to spend at least 80 percent of the premiums they charge on actual care rather than their profits or overhead.

Will Obamacare raise your health insurance premiums?

Americans for Prosperity is airing this anti-Obamacare ad in Virginia and other states.
Americans for Prosperity, a conservative group advocating small government, recently launched a national TV ad implying that Obamacare is raising the cost of health insurance.

"And what am I getting for higher premiums and a smaller paycheck?" a woman asks near the end of the 30-second spot, which is airing on cable TV in Virginia.

PolitiFact and other fact-checking services have taken many looks at the claim that Obamacare will cause premiums to soar. Let’s do a quick review of the facts.

There are three types of private-market health insurance. Large-group plans cover employees of companies with more than 50 workers. Small group plans work the same way, but with the company employing fewer than 50 people. In both, workers pay a portion of the premiums and employers support the rest. The third type of private insurance is in the nongroup market -- policies that people buy on their own, paying the entire cost themselves.

Large-group plans account for roughly 70 percent of private policies, with small-group plans accounting for about 13 percent and the nongroup market accounting for about 17 percent.

Obamacare is expected to affect each of these three types of policies differently. In 2010, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that by 2016, insurance premiums in the large-group market would either stay the same or drop by as much as 3 percent, while the small-group market would see anywhere from a drop of 2 percent to an increase of 1 percent. The biggest rises would be felt in the nongroup market, where premiums were projected to increase by between 10 percent and 13 percent.

But let’s remember that the nongroup market includes young adults who typically buy low-premium, high-deductible plans. Obamacare, starting next year, will require a threshold of coverage that that will exceed what now is typically purchased through the individual market. The CBO estimated 57 percent of the nongroup would be eligible for subsidies to help buy the coverage.

So far, the law has not resulted in lower premiums. In its first year of implementation, 2010 to 2011, premiums for employer-sponsored family plans increased 9 percent. But, as our friends at FactCheck.org explained, Obamacare was responsible for an increase of only 1 to 3 percent. Incidentally, the Kaiser Family Foundation reported an increase of 4 percent for employer-sponsored family plan premiums from 2011 to 2012, but did not break down how much of the hike was attributable to Obamacare.

Another consideration: In 2015 the U.S. will start enforcing a provision of Obamacare that requires companies with 50 or more full-time employees to offer health insurance or pay fines. There’s been much debate over how many companies will find it cheaper to drop insurance they now offer and pay the penalty of $2,000 per full-time worker, not counting the first 30.

The CBO has projected that employers will drop coverage for about 8 million people, or 3 percent, forcing them to buy coverage through exchanges. Premiums may increase for those people, but the government would subsidize some of that expense for households earning up to four times the poverty level, or $89,400 for a family of four.

So despite promises that the law would cut premiums -- and predictions to the contrary -- the law is very complicated and people with different types of coverage will likely see a range of outcomes.

I just started this thread to convince people to hate President Obama as much as I do. I don't really care about the issues all that much, especially healthcare. In fact, my own healthcare went down in price by about $40 per month last year. Actually, everyone in my family saw their healthcare costs plummet. Everyone who hates Obama please give me a big shout out. Really no need to hide our feelings and motivations anymore. We just hate Obama with an undying passion and can't wait until his term is over. Our side lost the last election so what's left to lose? They can call us sore losers as much as they want and they could be right. Who cares? We hate Obama and will adjust and manipulate the facts any way needed to justify our hate.

The true measure of a man isn’t the power he holds, but on whose behalf he wields it.

Btw, hope everyone notices the difference in the user name and realizes the massive amount of time and trouble someone went to to avoid debating the actual topic. Sometimes debating with children can be tiresome.
