Viewers to participate with text-to-vote during Toronto mayoral debate

In another CityNews first, we’re taking audience participation up a notch — allowing viewers to vote and see results in real-time on how Toronto mayoral candidates are faring during Wednesday’s debate.

CityVote 2014: The Debate will be the first televised battle of the Toronto mayoral election making headlines here and possibly around the world. It will air Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Watch the debate live on City, CityNews.ca/live, the CityNews app or 680News.com/livevideo.

During the debate, you’ll have the chance to vote for whom you think has given the best answers and who is winning.

There are three ways to vote:

TEXT the code you see on screen and online during the debate to 37607.

TWEET the code you see on screen to @poll.

CLICK the candidate’s name on the link found at citynews.ca/live during the debate.

You will only be able to vote once for each method for each question.

“It’s American Idol meets local politics,” said Richard Bloom, CityNews’ director of digital. “We know this will add a layer onto the debate never before seen in local politics.”

During the broadcast, we’ll show results in real-time occasionally during the show and continuously at CityNews.ca/live.

Moderated by CityNews anchor Gord Martineau, it will include all five major mayoral candidates: Olivia Chow, Rob Ford, David Soknaki, Karen Stintz and John Tory.

Why is the vote between 5pm and 7pm when most people are getting off work, in transit or taking care of family or sustenance?
    matters?
