Question Recommendations for prepaid service: 2 weeks in the Vancouver area

Hi, I'm looking at getting prepaid service for my wife and myself. We'll be in Vancouver for 2 weeks. We both have factory unlocked Nokia 515s.

First of all, will the Nokia 515 work in Canada?

I'm considering Fido and 7-Eleven Speakout but I'd like to get some better opinions before I choose one.

Some factors that I am thinking about:

    1. We'd (my wife and I) would like to be able to text/call each other for free or at a discounted rate.
    2. I have some friends on Fido postpaid who I'd be calling occasionally.
    3. We're thinking of driving down to Seattle to do some shopping and we may need cell service.
    4. Because we're only in Vancouver for 2 weeks the cost of the SIM cards should be as cheap as possible (preferably $10 or under).

    Thank you.

The IMEI sticker on the retail box reads:

    NOKIA 515.2
    WHITE NV EAST AFRICA UK
    WCDMA 900/2100
    GSM 850/900/1800/1900

Could someone tell me if the 2G will work in Canada?

Presuming it's unlocked, yes, the 2G will work in Canada (850 and 1900). The 3G will not.

The best deal I know of right now is PhoneBox which offers two extremely reasonable by-the-week options: https://gophonebox.com/Plans/#short-term-plans

For two weeks or less, I think that's generally superior to what you'd get paying $29+ for 30 days of service. If you need *just* over two weeks (such as 15 days) then you might do better with a $35+ prepaid offer.

If you go this route, please let me know how it works for you. I'm considering getting it for two weeks for a relative visiting later this year.
