So why would subscribers choose Orange if the coverage ends up being the same?

If Free doesn't serve the area (you can't sign up in Orange only areas). No throttling, access to all technologies and full speed data.

I roamed on that network when I lost signal in buildings in Lufkin Tx in November. It was throttled though.

Which one? Those two cities are 30 or so miles from one another.

Just went through Cairo, Georgia. My phone picked up AT&T on the way before I got to the town, but once I got there I searched for networks and it allowed me to stay on AT&T even though T-Mobile was available. I selected AT&T manually and made a call and kept it connected for 35 minutes till I got back to Tallahassee where it cut off finally and forced me back to T-Mobile

So if a call is started on roaming, I guess it stays there till it ends.
I'm planning a road trip that will take me from PA to Beckley, WV, then to Durham, NC. Looking at T-Mobile's maps it shows a lot of roaming. Looking at Sensorly, it shows no service along I-64/77. I have my PagePlus backup to which I can conditionally forward incoming calls, so I won't miss any calls. I was just curious what to expect in WV.

Sensorly doesn't show roaming for whatever reason. T-Mobile roams on AT&T in West Virginia, so you should have service.

In my experience, Sensorly shows T-Mobile roaming as blank (no data). It shows no service in gray. It's the gray on the map that worried me.

In WV, you will have a solid 4g (HSPA) connection on AT&T. When you are getting close to NC, you should get LTE pretty much the whole way to Durham.

OK. Thanks. I'll just assume that the gray areas on Sensorly was from some account/MVNO that didn't have ATT roaming.
