Unhappy Asus Zenfone 2 reboot problem

    Hi Folks.

I picked up the Zenfone 2 on Saturday.
Noticed there was a software update, so performed that right away.

The following day my phone performed a random reboot while sitting on a desk in front of me. Nothing touched the device.

Yesterday, it did 2 random reboots. One on a desk, the other in my pocket.
Today, I pulled the device from my pocked to see it had rebooted again (was waiting for my password as device is encrypted).

I have also noticed that sometimes the device screen won't turn on when I "tap to wake". On occasion I have to use the power button.

Anyone else experienced any of these issues?

I've just checked the software updates, and a new one is available. It is currently installing and I hope that solves this issue. Guess I'll find out over the next couple of days...

I haven't seen that with mine, maybe a defective unit. I did get a couple updates over the weekend but never saw that issue.

    Thanks for the reply.
Even with the software update, I've already had a reboot this evening. So frustrating as the shop I purchased from (Memory Express) has no more units in stock. I'll have to contact them tomorrow to see what I can arrange for replacement...

The phone seems to have everything I want spec-wise (high RAM, 64Gb storage and SD card slot), so it's a real shame if I've got to go back to my Nexus 4 :-(

Anyone else having issues, or is it just my unit?

I'm having the same issue.I believe it's the update. My phone wasn't doing that before the 5/20/15 update. Hope they fix it soon.

OK, thanks for letting me know.
I actually took my unit back and had it replaced. I have not updated the firmware on this one. Perhaps I'll wait to hear if it sorts out the rebooting issue!

Have you reported the problem to Asus? If so, where?

Update on my situation. I exchanged my phone, and thus time I didn't run the updates. I've had no problems with this unit, but am quite reluctant to do an update until I know the issues are solved. Hopefully someone will comment when they are.

Well to follow up, my replacement unit has run fine. All my apps reinstalled and running well. No reboots.
Still haven't performed any software updates though... But I would happily recommend the phone now.

My friend had the reboot issue, and he performed a factory reset default. It took 2:41 hours!! Needless to say he returned the phone to CC today, and he picked himself up an LG G3. My other friend and i didn't have any of these issue, so i couldn't be happier knock on wood

Interesting. Although mine had the issue it did resets in 20 minutes or so.

Did your friend who returned it update the software, or were the reboots happening without the updates?

What about yours? Have you run the updates?

OK. Same issue as I originally had then.

So for this device - to update or not? Hmm. I would rather have the latest firmware, but is it worth the chance? Don't want to be sending it back to Asus!

If you update and it screws up again then it means there is an issue with the device and you are better off knowing now i guess.

Ha ha, I'm thinking the same thing. Just run the update. The next 24 hours will tell!
