NetTalk DUO-to-DUO without service, does it work?

    Hello All,

I have been a NetTalk DUO user since October 2010 (5 years) and have been pretty much satisfied with the product/service. I was using it with Comcast's 25 Mbps internet service.

I paid $62.41 for the device and one year service. After the first year, I bought their four year service plan for $98.95. So my total cost for five years was $161.36 or $32.27 a year. Not too bad for phone service with 911 support.

Well my service plan was up this October and the price went up to $39.95 plus tax for one year. So I decided to look around at other/newer options. I selected Google Voice with an Obihai 200 adapter. I had to buy a $10 tracfone to port my number and then pay $20 to port it again to Google Voice. The Obihai 200 adapter was $40. So the startup cost was higher at $70, plus I will need 911 service for $15 a year. This is all completed and I am pretty much satisfied with my new system.

My question is (finally) what to do with the old NetTalk device? I was wondering if it could still be used (without service) for anything, such as a DUO-to-DUO device?

My NetTalk service just expired. This is what happens:

Incoming calls and outgoing emergency calls have been disabled.

But you can make calls to the U.S. and Canada at a per-minute rate. The cost is deducted from your credit balance. So you have money in your account.

Anyone know what the per-minute rate is? I can't find it anywhere.
