Use Samsung Note 2 and/or S3 in Korea?

We're going to Korea in a couple of months. I'm in contract with ATT and can't unlock my current phones. Our old T-Mobile phones (Note 2 and S3) are unlocked. Can we use them in Korea with locally bought SIM cards? Can we use wi-fi calling from Korea to US?

South Korea has no 2G GSM, although the do have HSDPA and LTE. In the mid 1990s Korea switched from 800 MHz analog to 800 MHz CDMA. In the late 2000s, they added HSDPA. They added LTE in about 2012. I do not believe Korea uses SIM cards.
