    Canada Roaming Bonus

First post, I didn't see anything about this new feature so I signed up to let others know about it.

Last week, AT&T just starting giving free roaming in Canada. It is just like their free roaming plan in Mexico, and includes 1 GB of data. The catch is with the canada plan, you can't just add it from the AT&T web site, you have to go to their retentions department and have them put it on each line.

Here is where I obtained the information from: (Thanks to dwfaust, Plin, imlynxy and others on that thread....)

    forums.macrumors.com/threads/...1956522/page-2

You have to get to the retention department - the regular reps don't have access to add the Canada Roaming Bonus ... but I did not have to threaten to leave AT&T. I just called the support number (800-331-0500) and asked for the retention department. When you get a person in the retention department, tell them you want to add the AT&T Canada Roaming Bonus to your plan. As stated elsewhere in this thread, you must be on a Mobile Share plan to qualify.

If you don't have the AT&T Mexico Roaming Bonus on your plan, the regular rep or the retention rep can add that one.

This can be added on the DirecTV Unlimited Plan. Just got all five phone lines & my one tablet line added. Thank you AT&T!

BTW the rep didn't know about, so she dug a bit deeper and read all of the info I needed to know (i.e. Terms).

Thanks, worked very well for me. Really nice to have since I live in WA state and go to Canada quite often.

This would've been nice last weekend when I was in Canada, but it was only $30 to add the cheapest Passport, so not a big issue b

Yay. I saw this on MR too but that seemed to lead to the NumberSync service. And calling in the guy tried to sell me a Passport until I said it was "just like the Mexico Roaming I have with 1 gig of data, free calls and texts." And then he did it right away.

That's pretty awesome/amazing for those who travel to Canada often. The best part is that the free 1GB of data is full speed not 2G.

Just added it to my 7 personal lines. So cool to be part of the club haha. I was just up in Quebec the other day and had some roaming charges. The rep backdated the feature for me and removed the moderate amount of voice/data roaming charges I incurred.

AT&T has been pretty awesome to me so far. They gave me the Double Data promo a few weeks back and now this. I have a great deal when you factor in the Mexican roaming bonus, my 28% corporate discount and the awesome LTE coverage in general.

The only difference I see in the Canadian roaming bonus vs. the Mexican one is that the Mexican feature specifically states that it includes calls BACK to the US whereas the Canadian feature only mentions the free calls, texts and 1GB of data WITHIN Canada. Maybe an insider can clarify?

My rep said you can call the US from Canada with this plan. As a new customer, I've been impressed with AT&T so far.

Do you think this is in response to losing customers to T-Mobile, who has had free Canada & Mexico roaming for a while?

When I switched, I told the rep that the international services were a big part of my decision.

I'd expect them to make a bigger deal out of it, or make it an automatic update instead of semi secret, as it sounds. Maybe they're saving up some features for a big splash promotion?

Anyway, it's good for the whole industry and kind of shames Verizon for their fees now.

I think t-mobile plays an important role in what is happening in the wireless industry. AT&T did mention that they will have a lot of promotions this year, and they're rolling it out one-by-one, month-to-month.

I go to Canada to see family on an average of once per year, so I'm happy about this.

I was the one on MacRumors who first posted about it. I didn't get it added to my account, since I'm still on a FamilyTalk plan with unlimited data. One of my friends should quality, but he's spoken with a dozen reps, and nobody is able to add the feature to his account. Does anyone have the code for this feature? I believe there's also a different code that's needed for tablets on your plan.

I dialed 611 and asked for retentions. It took me to the right department & my rep wasn't aware of it yet. She proceeded to check her latest promotions and saw the Canada one (she was aware of the Mexico one) & she added it to my account, on all six lines.
