The good folks at XDA Developers managed to (1) get rid of offers and ads and (2) root both versions of the phone (with and without offers and ads). They are also already in the process of creating clean ROMs.

In light of the fact that the Amazon version of the phone has (so far) an unlockable OEM bootloader, this is a remarkable achievement that has taken less than two weeks since the release of the phone.

The rooting procedure is relatively simple for people who can follow written instructions to the letter.

The phone is actually a very nice phone for the price. Whatever Amazon loses in ad revenue, it should make up in volume.
