Weird text just now...supposedly from Page Plus...

    It says:

Page Plus Msg: Problesm with iPhone data? Put your phone on wifi, open this link, (and there is a link), and click install. Unsuccessful? Call 1-800-550-2436.

WTF? I already have to deal with that crap in email. Why would they send an unsolicited text like that? Obviously it IS a valid phone number for them, but I don't understand why this was sent. Anyone else get it?

Got the text on my PP phones too. Weird thing is that my wife's phone did use up all her data in just a couple days after the last iOS update. I had to renew her plan early after turning off a bunch of cellular data settings.

I was wondering if enough customers had similar problems, they might be pushing an update, but her phone seems to be working fine this week, and I never click on unsolicited text web-links.

I got this as well. This is not a new thing. For example, see here. Unfortunately, their text is too cryptic to give us any help in understanding why we might need or wish to install this particular profile.

Since my 4G LTE data is working okay, as far as I am aware, I'm filing it under the if it ain't broke don't fix it category.

I got it, too. Here's a thought: when I put two new ST iPhone 5s's on PP this summer, I was given two of those to profile links, one for each phone, by two different CSRs. Only one worked. Tier 1 PP support emailed a few minutes later and said one was an older link. I was also using TF SIMs that came with the phones.

So it's possible many iPhones are on PP now that are using that older profile with PP SIMs and PP is trying to get rid of it. One way would be to text all PP iPhones and tell them to add this new profile.

Of course, some won't. One way to force it would be to kill the old profile, send the text, and everyone trying to use the old profile would have to add the new one from the text today.

    Just a guess.

I assume this is the same message everyone else got. Is this different from a carrier settings update?

Downloaded the update on my computer and it's an XML file with following settings. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge can figure out what's going on:

Those are just apn settings. You can manually do it or install the profile and it will do it for you.

Since my 4G LTE data is working okay, as far as I am aware, I'm filing it under the if it ain't broke don't fix it category.
Tonight, while sitting at Waffle House awaiting my double Texas cheese melt and hash browns, I discovered I was one of the people affected by this change. The Mail app as well as the Xfinity Connect app complained that I didn't have a cellular connection, but the phone clearly showed "Verizon LTE" at the top. Later, while shopping at Wal-Mart, I downloaded and installed the profile and things started working as usual.

Bottom line: you will know you need this profile if you are on LTE rather than Wifi and apps that usually work on cellular data instead complain that you don't have cellular on. You'll get a security warning that the profile is unsigned, but install it anyway. Takes all of 5 seconds and you're done.

Data stopped working today. When you call PPC support line (chat is down due to high call volume), they mention to go to ivzwent.tracfone.com if you have problems with iPhone data.

Oops! You left the "p" out of ivzwentp.tracfone.com .

I just received a new version of the update text. This one just says to click the link to restore your data and be sure to accept the [unsigned] warning. What it doesn't tell you is that you have to delete your current profile first. If you don't, it will fail, telling you to delete your current profile. Then after you delete the current profile, you can click the text link and try again.

If you've already updated your profile to tracfone.vzwentp, you can probably ignore it.

I got that second text, and I ignored it. Today, at about 2pm, I lost data, AGAIN. What the hell???

Alright...I rebooted my phone, and got about 5 texts all at once. Now I have data again. This is ridiculous. What is going on with them?

Huh. Just now I had to go to airplane mode and back to get data working. Was fine earlier today. Might be Verizon and not PP. Who knows?
