Verizon looks to be densifying the most with small cells in Denver. They sure need it given the spare spectrum they have in that market

Verizon is planning a deploy several small cells in Park City, Utah based on May 10th planning commission meeting. Here are screenshot of small cell locations.

Very nice. Park City is another one of those examples where you can't trust population count to give you an indication of network traffic.

The small town right next to me (Imperial PA) has about 4 (that I found) DAS cells and speeds are a constant 150-160 down and 30 up regardless of time of day. I really wish they would install a few around my house. Especially since we have FIOS here so all the fiber optics are there, they would just need to install the equipment and tap into the lines.

You and me both. Speeds are fine here, at all times. But it would be pretty sweet to find they inked a deal my municipality and see those things pop up like mushrooms on all the light poles in town.

In my neighborhood speeds and signal strength is pretty poor. We pretty constantly get 1-2 bars of band 4 and DL speeds around 5 Mbps but everywhere around us (within 1/2 mile) gets around 100 down and 4-5 bars of band 4(I’m about 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh) so it looks like we are the perfect candidate for some small cells. On a side note Verizon was approved to build a tower about .25 miles from my house about 1.5 years ago but nothing has happened with the construction yet so I’m assuming we will never get any DAS sites since there is a pending approved tower site near by (if it ever gets built).

Keep in mind that I'm a rank amateur, but here's my take: Small cells are mainly designed only to improve throughput capacity. It's probably safe to assume that over time, more and more areas will need them. But they live in the shadows of macros. They aren't designed to replace macros, but to supplement them. So my guess is big red is still aiming to deploy that macro close to your home. You'll have fantastic speeds on all bands once it is in place.

Typical macro tower construction timelines (start to finish) are 2 years or more. 12-18 months for a small cell. So the delay you've witnessed isn't necessarily uncommon.

Size: 44.3 KB new Verizon cell tower going up on top of our local former IBM buildings. Funny there is a Verizon Tower in either direction 1/2 a mile away.

Checker79 can u tell me again how much spectrum is in Pittsburgh. I remember u saying we only have one 20x20 channel on band 4 but spectrum omega shows that d e and f blocks in addition to the 20x20 A and B blocks. Can anyone help me out trying to find out if we have more spectrum or if we’re starved for it like Austin Texas lol

    Verizon

    10x 10 band 2
    20x20 band 4
    10x10 band 13
    25 MHz 850

They didn’t win any AWS-3 in Pittsburgh. How are things going in a spectrum starved market in Austin ? Are they at least densifying to make it somewhat useable ?

Flagpoles like that are often TMO or VZ. What town is this in? I can try and pull permits.
