    Verizon travel pass price increases

Well I was looking on Verizon's site this morning and noticed that the travel pass fee for Canada and Mexico went from $2 a day to $5 a day however they did add Japan and India to the list. I just thought I would let everyone know.

Also now limited to 500 MB of high speed pre day. :-( then 2G until next billing day.

Lame, one step forward, 2 steps back. This is how they will compete with tmobile?

The TravlePass FAQ actually says "4G data speeds apply for the first 500 MB/day with reduced speeds thereafter." I've been in Frankfurt twice this year, on a day I know I went over 0.5 GB I was still seeing over 20 MB/s down.

God I love the internet! How has it not started yet? When I used over 500 MB my speed was reduced. Or are you holding on to the 2G speed prediction?

I'm sorry I miss read your post. But I will ask, what exactly does "reduced" mean. Can they put you down to 2G? What's the limit? How low can the speeds get?

I get the feeling they specifically chose the word "reduced" so as to keep their options open. I just happened to catch that when I switched to unlimited and was a little concerned, I go to Europe several times a year for work and decent cell data has come in handy quite often. I talked to two people at VZ, one on the phone who was positive it meant 3G, the other in a corporate store who suspected it will vary from country to country. I guess all I know is that right now "reduced" is still pretty good...

Wtf? I thought that Verizon had $10 per day pass that allows you to use you data allotment as if you were local. I used this option last year for two weeks in Europe and it was great. Didn't have to worry about getting hacked using hotel WiFi.

It's currently $2 per day for Canada and Mexico, and $10 per day in a bunch of other participating countries. The increase is for the Canada and Mexico price.

I'm currently in Belgium and accidentally went over the 500MB limit with a few speed tests. Speeds after that were at 0.04mbps down and up. About half of T-Mobile's 128kbs int'l data roaming.

Sucks to be you. What was your speed pre 500 MB?

For real haha. It was around 18 down/5 up on Proximus and slightly slower on BASE. Pings were atrocious at around 300ms but usable.

The advantage over T-Mobile though was I could call unlimited still without an additional per minute charge.

Interesting in light of Sprint now offering data in 165 countries, mexico and canada either free or $2/day depending if on OpenWorld or their newer plan. Sprint also offers LTE speeds for $5/day. Gotta love competition...
