It still works. People edit the wiki every day. It was updated within the past hour. People are doing these ports every day and reporting.

That said, it can be tricky dealing with TMO. I am fed up with them personally but most people still think they are the best option.

Has anyone who signed up on 7/12/18 or after confirmed whether or not mobile hotspot works at all (since it is no longer explicitly mentioned as a feature under the new terms)?

It has been confirmed that as of July 13 that hotspot has been removed. Video streaming has also been reduced to 480p.

My understanding is this was done inline with the new Unlimited Plus BYOD discount, so that the free plan more closely mirrored Unlimited Kickstart - but importantly, with an end date after 12 months.

If I had to guess, since John over at T-Mobile promised that if you like your plan, you can keep your plan when it's migrated to T-Mobile, that likely did in Kickstart, and made sure that Unlimited Plus mirrored T-Mobile plans closely. Not that two carriers would align plans before a merger was approved (oh no, no never).

Thanks for posting and, just for clarity for readers in case the context gets lost, this is for new signups only. Nothing is changed for existing One Year Free BYOD plan users except the limit before deprioritzation has been improved from 23 GB per month to 50 GB per month.

Literally hours wasted dealing with multiple tiers of TMobile support.

Every single time you call (including follow-up calls), you have to start by going through a lengthy interview with low-level support staff going over every conceivable aspect of your status question before they finally say, after about 10 minutes of wasted time, "Oh ok I can see that there may be an issue with your port but I will have to refer it to a specialist as I do not have the tools to query what went wrong." Sometimes two layers of that before reaching a third layer where they actually know anything about phones and ports..

Plus there is confusion as to whether their Port Center phone Support is supposed to be accessible to Prepaid Users or not. They keep trying to refer you back to the general Prepaid inquiry number who are clueless.

The only way I finally got the Port Center guy to handle it was telling him I had already been transferred back and forth too many times. And even then HE had to make a whole bunch of calls while I was on hold for about 15 min because he did not have access to the detailed status either.

Basically, their port management support is chaos.

Plus they have two different Prepaid account number systems with different numbers of digits etc. and your account can change from one to the other if you do ports or add funds. If you look on SlickDeals you can see all this confusion reflected in posts by multiple users.

Plus their online support system for Prepaid is a maze that is mostly dead-ends.

I also had problems previously even with a Teltik TMo Business account. The TMO Port Center tries to redirect your calls since it detects your account is "supported" by a reseller (and Teltik was totally incompetent, telling me to wait for days for an incoming port to complete). The only way I finally resolved that was calling on a non-TMO line so that they could not detect what number I was calling from to reroute it. Again literally hours wasted on that. The whole thing is not worth it at that cost.

Admittedly some of my TMo ports went through with much less effort, but always some degree of hassle.

Their site doesn't say the correct info everywhere, as this link: https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/offer...nity:1yearfree

    Says this.

    You’ll get Sprint’s Unlimited including:

    Unlimited data, talk and text
    HD streaming:
Video at speeds up to 1080p
    Music at up to 1.5mbps
Gaming streams at up to 8mbps
Unlimited 4G LTE data for most everything else. Data deprioritization applies during congestion.

Yeah I noticed they missed updating that wording in one place inside their FAQ section you are quoting from.

    It is wrong though.

Multiple people who enrolled after the 13th have confirmed from the lowered limits from their individualized account documentation.

The correct new limits are listed in the legaleze-style wording higher up on the page you linked:

Savings until 09/30/19; then $60/mo. for line 1, $40/mo for line 2 and $20/mo/line for lines 3-5. Reqs. AutoPay (discount applied w/in 2 invoices), new account, bring your own eligible device & Sprint SIM card. Savings claim compared to AT&T Unlimited & More and Verizon Go Unlimited rate plans for 1 line as of 6/28/18. Video streams up to 480p, music up to 500 Kbps, gaming up to 2 Mbps. Data deprioritization during congestion. Other monthly charges apply.**.
and within the graphics also higher up on the page:

Video streams up to 480p, music up to 500 Kbps, gaming up to 2 Mbps. Data deprioritization during congestion.

The easiest way to find information on the plan currently signed up for is by dialing *4 then press option 3 when promoted. I would like to hear what exactly is said to newer signups.

I am thinking of putting my younger son on this free plan for his first phone

    Wise move?

Can I use a Boost Mobile Moto E4 as long as I never activated it on Boost?

Do I need to go buy a new number from Ebay on TMobile or something in order to port that in? My son doesn't have any number yet. Or can I just sign up for the free year without bringing a number and Sprint will give me one?

    Thanks

You must port in a number from another carrier, that is one of the requirements to get this deal. The Boost Moto E4 shouldn't work, but I do believe someone here claimed they had one that was never activated and that it did work (though I believe we've had another person say it didn't work for them. You can always try to use the phone; my recollection is that the phone check is one of the earlier steps (before the credit check), so it should be easy to find out if the phone is "approved" for use or if you need to find another option.

Not a Boost E4 usually, but a zillion people are successfully activating Boost Moto G6 Play, which is a better phone with Wifi Calling, $80 at Walmart only (check stock on BrickSeek before going to a store). (Sprint is even unlocking them after 50 days on request, nonetheless).

You have to port in a number but you can use a Google Voice number ($3 to unlock) or buy a TMO number on EBay for $5 (search "number for port" on EBay - seller PortMasterxxx is good.)

    Thanks guys

I always hesitate before entering these rabbitholes, although I did get at least a year of really cheap RingPlus service for my oldest son in that rabbithole.

So since I don't have any number now, I can just buy one for $5 from the Ebay guy and he will give me a phone number as well as the SIM ICCID or whatever and then I use that to port into the free plan.

I was reading the Slickdeals thread and they said you could use any Sprint sim, even the Boost sim that comes in the G6 box.

after my last experience buying a tmobile number off ebay i'd go the google voice route. I've done both, and gv was a lot less painful in the porting process. I used a different ebay seller than comintel however, so that could explain the headache.
