I doubt they will outsource to a different country, didn't they just relocate the English call centre back to Canada?

Egypt is still live, and doing their darnedest to please.
It's quite a transformation from a year or so ago.

Yes, they were quite wonderful, actually...

The guy I spoke with couldn't complete the transaction right away and asked if he could call me back within 2 hours, and he did with the problem fixed...

    I was impressed.

Huh. Must have just been a rumor. They must be doing proper training now or something, I stopped using the call center long ago...

Any updates on the strike? I haven't been able to reach a Canadian customer service rep recently and I find the Egyptian team to be well intentioned but not up to the standard and efficiency of the windsor call centre employees

    The local view of it...

Unions and a minimum wage hike... It's unfortunate...

And I thought Shaw might have been better than that.

The decision to convert Shaw's Victoria call centre to a dedicated Freedom CS centre was made early last spring, prior to Steelworkers setting up shop in Windsor.

They closed both Alberta call centres a couple years ago. recently reopened a small (tech support?) one in Calgary. It's a volatile industry.

Hmmm, if they had already made the decision, why threaten to lock the Windsor workers out? Why pick a fight with the union and workers needlessly ? Is Shaw one of these companies that is reflexively anti-labour?

There wont be a lock out. The place is getting shut down completely in Windsor. No way Wind/Shaw was ever going to live with a unionized call centre.

Let's be serious about this; why would a call centre employee "need" a union in the first place?

In the linked article above the pay they "negotiated" is less than the new ON minimum wage hike
And don't forget they then pay union dues out of their $13.68 avg wages lol
    Public $120 Province Wide + 12GB - $6 Autopay - $9 Loyalty - $45 Refer = $20 per Month
Telus SK North American Wide 7GB = $65
    Chatr (Mobi) $40 North America Wide + 6GB + 30 Mins Roaming
    Freedom $35 ($37-BTS) North America Wide + 8GB + 1GB Roaming

    Windsor is a union town...

It's just the way they see things there...

Even the taxi cabs are unionized.

Maybe but the issue is these workers should be pissed off at their union not at Freedom

Union negotiated crap wages, crap severance, and obviously crap job security

Most of these workers are not even getting the chance to go work at a store kiosk etc

In that case what is the point of the union? (And as a bonus question, why the heck is the amalgamated union including steel workers??? A call centre rep is subsidizing a steel worker lol)
