My US Cellular Moto E4 XT1768 received an update today, NPQS26.69-64-15, which includes the January 1, 2019 Android Security Patches.

If it's the Vzw Prepaid version, it's XT1767, not XT1768.

Or do you have the unlocked, un-carrier branded, XT1768 retail version?

    It's the un-branded XT1768 factory unlocked version...running on PagePlus/Vzw.

    I have a Moto e4 XT1765 from TMobile ,
    It's still in a sealed box ...

But if you have the same model does it have an unlock logo on the app screen ?
    My e5 play does ,
And is there a cheap unlock for the TMobile e4

    Thanks for your help

Interesting. Maybe USC had some way to get their XT1768 to update faster than the XT1768 factory unlocked version.

I always use wifi. When I first got the phone it was a factory refurb, factory unlocked xt1768. When I first fired it up on wifi it went through I believe 3 updates in a row.

I thought all xt1768's are factory unlocks. Don't the updates go through the carrier...not the phone mfg per say?
The last I got was security patch November 1, 2018. (is the build number the update#, it's NPQS26.69-64-12?) Is that the last you had prior to your recent January 2019 update boz ?

Updates to Moto phones usually come directly from Moto.

    Particularly the unlocked/unbranded ones.

Not entirely sure about the branded devices, but they appear to come from Motorola as well. At least the low end pre-paid ones. Not sure about the Moto Z Droid versions.

But... Motorola can target specific carriers/SIMs. I know they did it at least once for Moto G5+ update to address a Verizon specific issue.

My Simple Mobile Moto E5 got updates before I had a working SIM in it.

My GoPhone LG Phoenix 2 will only get updates if it has a (TF) AT&T SIM in it. AT&T has a web site that describes all its updates.

My LG Q6 (Canadian Rogers version) gets updates when LG roll them out to North America Q6 models.

The US Cellular XT1768 version is almost exactly like the unlocked retail XT1768, but it is very slightly modified to USC, including the startup splash screen, 2 or 3 small apps built into the ROM, and the Software Variant and Software Channel both say USC. There may be other differences, but that's all I know about. Perhaps the USC Software Channel is what caused it to receive an update before the retail unlocked XT1768.

The important thing is, the US Cellular XT1768 SIM card slot is unlocked for any SIM card, the ESN is eligible for activation on the Vzw network, and it has been widely reported that it can be added to the Sprint database if someone wants to use it on the Sprint network.

Yes, for my US Cellular XT1768, the prior Android Security Patch Level was November 1, 2018, Build Number NPQS26.69-64-12, received in late November, 2018.

I'm currently on the lookout for a cheap older Verizon unlocked E4, or US Cellular E4, or factory unlocked e4, in the span of 3 weeks last month I had my iphone's battery flake out, as well as my verizon moto e4's fingerprint scanner stopped working. It would randomly act like something was touching it even when nothing was, reboots and cleaning the area did nothing to help, and even when I did try to unlock it with my finger it either acted like it was the wrong print, or did nothing 50% of the time sadly. I finally sent the iphone off for battery repair but am unsure if I'm going to keep it for backup or just sell it since the 128gb 6s still has a decent resale value. I honestly quite liked the e4's front and back cameras and performance in general thanks to the vanilla android helping the budget specs out.

I really liked being able to just swipe to the left on the homescreen to get the google news feed, I don't even think you can download the google now launcher it uses anymore.

The G6 Play's and actual G6 I've seen have been a bit pricey for unlocked versions, and it's hard finding one that isn't all beat up or cracked, it seems like the glass back they used was a quite poor durability choice. Currently using a v20 with big 10k capacity extended battery as a daily driver that I've surprisingly gotten used to the bulk lol.
