According to cellmapper, the closest place that has band 66 near Chicago and Juliet, is Milwaukee near the General Mitchell airport.

I noticed this today as well as the network acting erratically bouncing me between 4-66-13 repeatedly over a matter of seconds. A friend also noticed B25 MFBI out in Naperville. Must’ve been a network update because Verizon has no AWS-3 in the Chicago area.

OK, so I don't know how Cellmapper updates or does its thing per se, but I've noticed in the past month or so that I now park mostly on Band 66. Before then it was Band 2. FYI I've never seen Band 4 pop up on my phone. This is both in Fort Worth and rural NE Tx along state highways. Weirdly, most of the sites on Cellmapper that I connect to Band 66 to now, no longer list Band 2. Don't know if that's a Cellmapper issue or what.

I've been mostly on band66 when I've looked here in 60441, at some point I parked on band 2 and I'm there right now.

It's an improvement, albeit one that really doesn't matter, over the old status quo, which was mostly band 2 and 5.

EDIT: I mean, band2 and 5 give me about 25 mbps, which is fine.
EDIT2: And I get the logic, it increases capacity to dump people who can use 2,4,5,and 13 on 2 and 5, 4 and 13 on 4, and 13 only on 13 when possible.

Once CDMA gets shut off there probably won’t be any B13 only phones left on the network, which should help.

    Band 66 sightings thread

Today I noticed Verizon is finally using their 5 MHz of AWS3 Block G for CA here. They’ve been using their 10 MHz of Block J for CA for a few years now. I spotted it as CA on 2 recently upgraded sites.

EARFCN 66911 - though incorrectly shown here as 10.0 download bandwidth:

In the EUTRA Neighbor Info menu I’m also seeing the 5 MHz of Dish Block I combined with 10 MHz of VZW Block J which shows as EARFCN 67061.

    A Speedtest was good:

We have G and J block here as well for Verizon... although the few sites and SC that have it have all of it enabled. That’s good to see! Do you by chance have E+F block AWS as well? I’d guess that’s why they bought both here— to eventually move to 20 MHz E+F+G.

No, T-Mobile has D+E+F giving them a 20 MHz channel. Verizon is leasing the C Block so at least they have a 15 MHz channel.

Verizon could get a 20 MHz carrier with H+I+J if they could keep the I Block on loan from Dish thanks to the FCC’s temporary ruling allowing unused bandwidth to be used by non-hoarding carriers, and do a G/H swap with T-Mobile.

Below are the AWS blocks in my area (Washoe County, NV).
