Here’s what’s interesting. I’ve found it works one way, where as if a T-Mobile customer calls me, it works, but if I call them it doesn’t.

No HD Voice between T- Mobile & Verizon yet. . . . . I look for that HD icon to pop up every day I call mom.

Hmm, doesn't work either way here in the DC area. Maybe it has something to do with the Sprint transition?

I haven't seen EVS between AT&T and VZW.
I'm referring to the HD icon on a Motorola phone. When calling T-Mobile it's just a VoLTE call.

That icon is controlled by provider, it doesn't really mean anything IMO.
Also, EVC doesn't have that icon, for EVC it is HD+. HD is for AMR-WB.
Go in the service menu and see what codec is in use there.
My S20, on Verizon network, after each reset, I have to "Enable Hidden Menu" first:
*#22745927*
The MSL for unlocked phones is six 0: 000000
Then the *#0011* will show the information.
Yes, that is the S20 U1 variant, but I should correct my statement. The provider is TotalWireless, on VZW network, with TF SIM.
Soon I'll get the S21+, I am curious to see if it will still work.
PS: In case that anyone wonders, TW it's a Tracfone company, a Verizon MVNO, hence the Verizon network. Soon to be acquired by Verizon:

The transaction is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Verizon expects the transaction to close in the second half of 2021.
Yes, a co-worker's phone shows HD even when the call is just plain VoLTE to my Verizon phone. (LG Stylo 4 on T-Mobile) All of my Moto phones only show HD when it is truly HD.
Have never seen HD+ show up so not sure if it is just a phone limitation? Whatever HD I'm getting sounds fantastic. . . . . like being on an intercom.

I see that I am getting the EVC codec (that would be HD+) only when I call someone on Verizon/TotalWireless that has a phone capable of that. Like from my S10/S20 to my son's iPhone 11Pro.
The other calls, the used codec is AMR-WB (that's HD technically). Or even AMR-NB (calls to land lines).
PS: On my unlocked Moto G4 Plus I never was able to use VoLTE on Verizon. Only on my wife's Moto G5.
