    RCS? VoWiFi?

    Hi,

Anyone on the inside know if Bell is ever going to get ether of these two android features? So jellous of all the Americans how they get VoWiFi and SMS over WiFi. Probably absolutely great while travelling.

I don’t think “roaming WiFi calling” (i.e. VoWiFi outside Canada) is available on Bell or Telus. I think only Rogers offers that but I could be wrong.

I can confirm RCS works on Bell Mobility. had a few chat messages back and forth, love the typing indicators and read receipts.

No idea about Wi-Fi Calling for non i-phones at this time, but I suspect it might happen soon cus the new LG Thin-Q supposedly has it
I put the "HO" back in "HOFO"

According to their Wi-Fi Calling support page, only LG G6 and G7 on Android side, so far.

I confirmed VoLTE works, and the HD indicator appears when I make calls to my wife who also has same phone as me same carrier too, it sounds nice and loud and clear and full spectrum. so i know it works, but when i called my parents landline the HD indicator is not there and the voice is obviously compressed

Video Calls over LTE also work, did a test call the other day.

If they don't let you use overseas as if you're in Canada, for me makes no difference. Rogers does allow you to use VoWifi overseas and won't charge you international roaming since you actually didn't pay/use the international carrier

Besides overseas, they should allow Wi-Fi Calling in the USA too. Bell and TELUS are greedy and want to force you to buy a roaming package or pay through the nose with their pay-per-use rates. Both Rogers and Freedom Mobile are “right” for allowing VoWiFi outside of Canada.

Hmm, I wonder if a VPN would work to enable VoWiFi while in the USA or international destinations?
TELUS: Unlimited Canada-wide Talk, Text and 15 GB Data
Koodo: Unlimited Canada-wide Talk, Text and 8 GB Data
chatr: $60 Unlimited In-zone Talk, Text and Data (20 GB at 3G speed)

Even with VoWiFi enabled to work overseas for Rogers, wouldn’t it be billed as standard plan mins the same way it works while in Canada? In other words, wouldn’t VoWiFi still be considered “roaming” overseas?

    1) Yes

    2) No, it’s not considered roaming:
How is Wi-Fi Calling billed when I am travelling outside of Canada?

If you are using Wi-Fi Calling while outside of Canada, the following will be deducted from your airtime and messaging limits included in your wireless plan without incurring any long distance or roaming charges:

    • Incoming calls and messages received from anywhere in the world
    • Outgoing calls and messages made or sent by you to a Canadian number

This is just valid for Rogers, correct?
I got WiFi calling on my bell GS9. Wondering if I'd be able to use wifi calling over seas and just use my minutes without being charged international roaming

Rogers/Fido and Freedom Mobile allow Wi-Fi Calling in Canada to be the same as Wi-Fi Calling internationally. See their websites for the exact details. Bell and TELUS only allow Wi-Fi Calling in Canada.

I tried this in Las Vegas in June on TELUS. I got TELUS Wi-Fi to appear on my iPhone the first time I used a VPN to a Canadian server. On subsequent attempts, I could never get it to work again. So I paid $7 a day to roam for four days.
