Do you know when they changed it from 500mb/month to 1gb/month?

    Thanks!

Talking Tracfone has updated their website

A negative I have noticed is that a couple months ago, I was not able to buy an extra 1GB from Tracfone for my Safelink phone. The site kept redirecting me to Safelink for the $15/month plan (1GB data, unlimited text and calls). 1GB data card is only $10.

    *UPDATE*
Just tried again and if I click out of the redirect to Safelink, it did seem to offer to sell me 1GB of data to my phone number.

I'm a Safelink user, but I just to to TracFone website and sign into my account and buy the 1GB data and it's automatically added to my phone.

same as what the poster above me just said...

It's currently Feb 8, 2018. I can confirm that I just used Tracfone website
to purchase the 1gb/$10 to a Safelink phone number. It went through just
fine and the additional 1gb showed up on the phone within seconds.

I wonder why Tracfone's website uses that pop-up to "trick" people to use
the Safelink website to buy at more than double the price for data. (500mb
    for $12)

seems too good for a free plan. What's the catch?

It's only free to the users, but subsidised by everybody else that pay telecommunication fees. California has unlimited talk and text + 2GB data per month. The more you pay - the more they get!

You can work, pay taxes and also get a government cell phone. A low income household of one person making under 26,400 in CA can get the program,

The first 3 months you get 3GB of data then its 2gb per month,

You can get truly unlimited data if you pay an additional $27.60 per month.

I thought you had to be on a CA assistance program, but seems low income alone will qualify. I am interested, but concerned which carrier they would put me on. There is some indication the default is T-Mobile, which is very spotty in my area.

I assume it doesn't carry over, but use it or lose for the month?

It does not carry over it is month to month so any benefits you don't use reset back to the standard whatever amount you get.

Also it's T Mobile which won't work for me because on their signal, I had to go outside to send an MMS. When I had Metro PCS, they did a bad job of helping me resolve the issue even though the chat reps were friendly, they insisted on calling me during hours when I was working,

Anyways without going into a long story, their signal is no good in my apartment. That's why I broke free and went back to Tracfone after the 90 days were up and got an ATT Sim which works 100% everywhere and does everything, even on a low signal.

But the government cell phone service runs off of the Net 10 Wireless service and uses T Mobile.
