WiFi calling in Mexico on plan that doesn’t have Mexico/Canada calling

I’m on the grandfathered 5 for $100 plan. My phone has WiFi calling. If I were in Mexico, would I still be able to make/receive calls over WiFi? A google search seems to indicate that it is possible on ATT.

I may be stupid, but I thought you could make WiFi calls anywhere in the world.

So, is there a list of countries where cricket WiFi calling will work or not work?

No. Some cell companies limit WiFi calling to the country for the plan or require a specific plan to use WiFi calling when in another country.

That is new to me. That's sucks. Can a phone vpn bypass that?

Has anyone tried this? I seem to recall when AT&T launched Wi-Fi calling, a lot of people said it wouldn't work overseas, and it did flawlessly (and still does). Although Cricket is rolling things out differently, I'm guessing they'd take a similar approach. Their Wi-Fi calling FAQ also only says that you're limited to calls to the US, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands: https://www.cricketwireless.com/supp...questions.html

The only language on that page regarding restrictions says "Use of Wi-Fi Calling may be restricted in certain countries." - similar language to AT&T's page. I seem to recall that some countries' restrict services, like Skype or WhatsApp, and the ports used for Wi-Fi calling may be blocked similarly: https://security.stackexchange.com/q...tries-like-uae

From AT&T: You cannot use Wi-Fi Calling in these countries: China, Cuba, North Korea, India, Iran, Israel, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

Thanks for picking that out - I was on my phone and must've missed that little FAQ item when gathering information.

I use my phone in Mexico all the time with 3G or 4G service and it works great. Just wondering why you want to make calls over wifi?

Not all plans have a low cost option for making/receiving calls from/to the US using the cell network but WiFi calls can be free back to the US.

I have used AT&T postpaid WiFi to make calls from Germany to the US without incurring international charges.
