Koodo Home Phone SIM in Smartphone

Anyone out there with Koodo home Phone service, can test out if the SIM works in a smartphone?

Looking to set this up for a senior in my family that would use it as a emergency / occasional use only, so being portable it would be of great value at $5/month.

^The Home Phone sim card is locked to the IMEI # of the home phone device. So the answer to your question is 'NO'

We always hear about this, but in majority of cases things aren't enforced.

Question for you: have YOU actually tried or you are just replying based on assumptions others have made?

If it is locked and you replace SIM card the new SIM would not be locked right?

Or just use a Chinese phone where you can set your IMEI
    Koodo $40 Canada Wide + 8GB
    Public $120 Province Wide + 12GB - $6 Autopay - $9 Loyalty - $45 Refer = $20 per Month
    Freedom $35 ($37-BTS) North America Wide + 8GB + 1GB Roaming

Telus hubs originally set a random SIM PIN code when a new SIM was inserted. You couldn't use the SIM in anything else because the PIN was unknown. I don't know if that is still the case, or if it is possible to hack into the HUB to find the PIN if it is. I think a once annual $100 prepaid top up would be an easier (although moderately more expensive) solution.

Unlocking is now free, so if you planning to hand-me-down a phone, get that done and then look at Bell prepaid. They still have a pay only per use for about 50cents a minute if all you are looking for is an emergency rig for a senior.

Trying to cobble together a solution that might fail for very simple reasons down the road when it is needed badly may not be the best emergency preparation system.

If you choose this pay per use only and add the $10/month unlimited long distance add on does that cover local calling? Also does unused data from an add on carry over or expire at months end?

^ Why would you think a long distance add on includes local air time minutes?

FYI: The add on will only cover the long distance portion not local calling airtime minutes

I think that would have a better chance of being answered in a Bell subforum.

This thread has served its purpose and is going off topic.
TLDR: Home Phone is Sim Locked. Can't use SIM in another device.
