Help finding a flip phone to work on Red Pocket

I put my mom on Red Pocket about a month or so ago. She had a flip Samsung Gusto 3 that had been on PagePlus for years.

Mom dropped it in the toilet. I then did a chat with Red Pocket and asked if I bought another Samsung Gusto 3 Verizon Prepaid, would it work on Red Pocket. They said YES.

Tonight I tried to get her number transferred to her new phone. Evidently it WON't work...tied to Verizon.

When buying another Samsung Gusto 3, what am I looking for that will work on Red Pocket? Unlocked CDMA? When browsing Ebay, I don't see any or they are expensive for a flip phone (50-75.00)....that's crazy.

Thanks. Mom is older and used to this phone so I want to keep her on it.

    Thanks in advance.

Does it have to new or VZW? And what's the max $$$?

The reason your new PREPAID Samsung Gusto 3 won't work is it's a prepaid not a postpaid phone thus subsidized by VZW.
As a US citizen I have the right to criticize my government. My thanks for this is endless in magnitude.

Fascism is here led by a hypersensitive psychopathic dictator having complete power, obsessively suppressing criticism, regimenting industry & commerce. Emboldening racism & aggressive nationalism.

Thanks. She had been on PagePlus for so long that usually when she needed this phone replaced, I just searched for Samsung Gusto 3 PagePlus and many would pop up and usually at about 25.00. They were opened but new.

This Verizon Prepaid I got from Best Buy only cost 19.99.

For a flip, I wouldn't want to pay anymore than maybe 40.00. I'd like to get the same phone because the size was perfect...she's stick in her bra sometimes when she didn't have her purse. lol She's just used to that phone. You know how older people are.

I'd like to keep her on Verizon Red Pocket because we have better coverage here.

I'm looking on Ebay now and they have the Samsung Gusto 3s for 75.00 (a Koscher phone) What the heck is that? 75.00 for a flip phone? That sounds crazy.

I'd prefer new or open box is fine.

Kyocera has the DuraMax series and Samsung the Convoy.

The LG Exalt is only 168.00 brand new and is a LTE flip phone that will keep working after Verizon kills 2/3G.

Sounds like you may need to open up your wallet a bit more.

Verizon 3G devices have to be on Verizon Prepaid plan for at one year continuously. And even then, you might need to file an FCC complaint, then fight with Verizon another 30 days to get it freed for use on a Verizon MVNO.

Been there, done that. The one that was freed is now an extra (I got my mom another one off of Ebay while wating for Verizon to unlock the first)

Nope it's only for Sprint MVNOs or less. I didn't read in depth.

I did a chat with Verizon on Facebook and of course they denied to release the phone. I just said thanks and don't much want to mess with them. I'll keep looking around. I guess we were spoiled by only paying about 25.00 all these years for Gusto phones while on PagePlus. I had no ideas mom would have to pay over 50.00 for an old old flip phone. That's crazy. Some I'm reading reviews from 2010. lol That's an old phone and kind of hard to pay much for it...especially flip.

Mom keeps dropping them in the toilet.

I know you require VZW coverage. But if you went AT&T, TM or unlocked GSM you probably could get a new flip phone for $25.

You'd better get used to the idea that the technology time clock is ticking down for that type of device (end of 2019). Even if you found another exact replacement that worked, you'll likely need to replace it with an LTE device that supports VoLTE around that time. Doesn't have to be a smartphone, but currently the choices are very limited, and thus the prices will likely never be what you're used to. This (cost and dates) could change, but no one can say for sure.

ATT on Red pocket might be a good solution. Ask around with friends on ATT signal.

Also tell mom don’t put a cell phone near her breast. Too close to lymphnodes and cell phones emit signals.

diddlydudette, I see 6 currently available for under $43 delivered. Take a look at https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...geplus&_sop=15 .

Any Gusto 3 advertised to work on PagePlus will also work on RP Vzw through 12/2019, as long as it is activated by 06/2018.

The above dates are what have been announced by Vzw, and are probably subject to change, but it's the best info we have at the moment.

    I'm glad it was useful.

I haven't heard anything about something similar regarding the Sprint network.

Thanks Boz. I may just get her another one last time. They seem to usually last her a year or so before she breaks it or drops it in the toilet so if it lasts until Dec. 2019, that might be good enough for now. Thanks for the heads up that PagePlus Gusto 3 phones will work for her.
