Samsung galaxy s9 and T-Mobile reps

So I saw that galaxy s9 won’t support band 5 lte 850 MHz which is only available in Myrtle Beach sc market. WHERE I LIVE!!!

So I messaged a T-Mobile rep on twitter to find out if it’s true. He confirmed but also mentioned that band 5 is Not live in my area. I had to correct this guy.

He did mention that they are modernizing band 2 and 4 adding more capacity and few towers in my area. Asked him also about band 12 or 71 he said he doesn’t have any info if and when low band will be implemented in my area.

The Unlocked model has Band 5. Not sure why Tmobile says that when everyone should have the same model

There are rumors, I don't know whether confirmed yet, that only the T-Mobile model supports B71. I'm getting tired of this. Bad enough when there are differences between submodels on lower/mid range models, but the S9 is a flagship model.
iPhone X on ATT Prepaid. Backup iPhone 7+ on inexpensive Verizon MVNO plan. Hopefully covers me in the continental US for phone usage. Cheaper than a single unlimited plan on ATT or Verizon or T-Mobile.

It shouldn't the S8 had all the same bands the carriers just locked some of them. From what I saw Sprint model will have B71 active.

Try checking pdadb.net. it lists the g960U as the same for all carriers. Perhaps you can buy the unlocked one and change the software and CSC via odin

From what I've seen, they're all model G960UXXXX where XXXX is a carrier-specific identifier. It looks like I may have to wait until some 3rd party (e.g. Google, Moto, etc) makes a carrier-agnostic phone with band 71.

I find it a bit strange that both CSpire and USCC, who hold significant 600 MHz spectrum, would order models that don't support this band.

This is apparently based on Bestbuy info, so if correct at least the unlocked model supports B71. I don't understand why MetroPCS, owned by T-Mobile, wouldn't support B71. But the unlocked model is showing all the bands that the T-Mobile one carries, plus at least 3 more.

Apple is criticized currently for having 2 versions of their phones for the US market, CDMA and non CDMA supporting, yet it doesn't seem to bother Samsung to have a much larger number of models, many missing bands for one or another carrier. Probably not enough to make them unusable (once unlocked) on each other, but suboptimal.

Goto T-Mobile Store/MetroPCS Store/BetsBuy (unlocked S9) etc and dial on S9 (they have already S9s but not for sale yet) *#2263# to see all available bands.

Rest easy guys. The S9/S9+ U/U1 will support all bands. It will be dependent on the specific carrier SIM that is installed. The store models may not show supported LTE bands in the 2263 menu if there hasn't been a SIM provisioned for network access on T-Mobile. These are the specs on the S9/9+ from FCC showing all LTE bands! B5 and B71 will most definitely be included

Nice. I know they've been shipping them early. Haven't received any info on mine yet.
