Please suggest an economical Android smartphone with good call qualtiy

In a pinch I recently purchased an Alcatel 5044R (a.k.a. idealEXCITE) and it's OK, but I'm having a hard time hearing callers. OK, at age 63 my hearing isn't what it used to be, but still it seems that with the volume up all the way I should be able to hear better. I have a good signal, 3 or 4 bars, so that's not the problem.

I will eventually replace this Alcatel since it was something of a stopgap measure, and I would like to get a phone with clear, loud voice quality. I don't watch videos on my phone or do anything requiring lots of memory and processor speed. Mainly I just talk and text and use a couple simple apps.

I'd like to keep it under $100 and used or refurbished is OK. Any suggestions?
My smartphone is a lot smarter than I am.
