Went in to renew my plan but was told i can no longer keep my grandfathered plan if I want subsidy?
Apparently, this new policy kicked in mid April.

Grandfathered plans are never guaranteed to remain forever. It is only done as a courtesy, not part of any contract.
Just another day in paradise.....
Hello everyone!
Gabrielle from the social media team here.
You can always keep your grandfathered plan even when you want to upgrade, however depending on your plan, it may or may not include a device subsidy in its pricing.
In order to get a device financing, you need to have what is considered a Small, Medium, Large or XL plan. BYOP plans do not include any subsidy in their pricing, only the service. Your grandfathered plan may fall in any of these categories, so just make sure to check with a Fido rep beforehand to find out which kind of financing you can get with your current plan.
Hope this helps!

It is sad I need to state the obvious but some people just don't get it. Any posts I make are my own OPINIONS and in no way represent the views of my employer
I would think that there is no violation if the new policy clearly defines the new change. You can't keep all prior options/features if you want to upgrade your phone with newer device financing option like with the old plans. This is no different with most US carriers today as well. Seems clear and simple to me.
