600mhz auction to be held March 2019, 5g auction 2020-2021

So now that the dates have been confirmed. In terms of 5g Telus wanted the auctions to happen a year before but sadly that won’t happen. What do you guys think Rogers will be doing when it comes to future auctions. Shaw’s ceo has said in the past that they might work together for 5g. After the auctions are held how long do the carriers usually take to deploy the spectrum, for example since the 600mhz spectrum is being held in March how long do you think it will take to be deployed?

It depends if 600 MHz will be deployed for LTE or 5G.

My opinion is 600 MHz LTE (B71) can be deployed relatively quickly. The first deployments can be 3-6 months after auction is concluded. It's just a matter of ordering radios and antennas, and then installing them on existing sites.

For 5G, I don't think anyone will launch with 600 MHz (n71) only. I think they'd rather wait until they have much larger spectrum holdings in higher bands (n78 and n257). So we may not see commercial 5G deployment in Canada until late 2020.

Every operator will want to be first, so they will rush to deploy a small area in one or two markets, and then worry about expansion after that.

Depends what you mean by B66.

The AWS-3 part is only Bell/Telus (no Rogers). No info on deployment.

The AWS-1 part can be MFBI with B4 at any time. I think it will be done if needed, but there are no "B66-only" phones at the moment, so there's no rush.
