TracFone CDMA/Verizon Phones Must be VoLTE Capable before End of 2019

Verizon Blocking New Activations of Most non-VoLTE Phones on Verizon Postpaid and Prepaid June 30

    https://www.prepaidphonenews.com/201...ns-of.html?m=0

There's more than what I've quoted below.

"On Wednesday we learned that Verizon is allowing its MVNOs to activate 3G and Non-VoLTE phones until December 31, 2018. That's an extension from the original June 30, 2018 cut off date for activating these devices. "

"On December 31, 2019, the Verizon 2G and 3G networks will be shut down. 3G devices will no longer connect to the network and non-VoLTE LTE phones will not be able to make or recieve phone calls."

This means everyone on TracFone CDMA/Verizon needs to have a VoLTE capable phone working before December 31, 2019 to maintain cell service.

OK folks, this is a huge thing affecting maybe millions of users. Goes beyond TracFone to affect many users of the Verizon network. Much bigger than the AT&T 2G shutdown, which only affected a few users on very old phones.

I don't see a lot of recent TF/VZ phone models in that list. There will be a lot of pissed-off customers if TF makes them replace a phone that is less than 2 yrs old.

We probably need to create a second list of known TracFone branded and BYOP CDMA VoLTE capable phones not on the Boom Mobile list.

I wonder if TracFone will be giving VoLTE phones free to TracFone CDMA customers who have non-VoLTE active devices like they did for AT&T 2G shutdown?

I have been looking for a volte capable flip phone for my wife. She has a hard time with bar type touch screens. The TracFone LG236C she has used for years will be useless in 18 months... AT&T has not announced their 3G cutoff date yet, but it can't be far behind. TracFone needs to step up and let it's customers know what options will be available.

I understand what you mean. My mom has been using the same LG Octane since late 2010. It shows no signs of quitting yet, but it will be 9 years old by the end of 2019, so the time to get a new phone will have long passed by then. Unfortunately, even though she's only 83, her hands aren't as steady as some other people her age, like my dad, so she can't use touchscreens effectively. But 1-1/2 years is a pretty long time, especially in phone time, so I have little doubt that an acceptable, reasonably priced solution will become available by then.

I think that's the problem. I don't think there is one.

Verizon has some. The aren't cheap though. For example

I expect TF will add one or two around the end if new activations.

This list from Wikipedia goes beyond CDMA phones and will probably be kept fairly well updated.

Yeah. Hopefully the price will come down and/or a 3rd party starts selling one.

But while $144 is a lot for a flip phone, if it lasts as long as the old LG phones larryoham12 and I mentioned, paired with cheap service, it isn't terribly unreasonable.

But how does that list help with the issue being discussed here?

I assume all the phones Verizon Wireless currently sells are all VoLTE capable:
