    Red Pocket: overages & tethering

    Two questions about Red Pocket:

    1. The web site states that there are no overage fees. That doesn't make sense. What happens if you're on the $10 500/500/500 plan and you exceed voice, text, and/or data?

    2. The web site states that tethering is not available on CDMA Android devices. I assume that means natively. But will PDAnet work?

    1. When you run out you run out there’s non exceeding you just don’t get the text/talk/ or data if you go over. Simple as that. Until unless you add money/add on to it.

    2. No clue sorry.

Thank you. Do you know how much they charge to add minutes/text/data? I haven't found that info on their web site.

While RP is an EXCELLENT deal if you stay within your chosen plan's allowances, be aware that add-ons are not a very good value comparatively and do NOT carry over beyond the end of your current 30-day plan cycle.

PDAnet is working on my Pixel 2 with my present carrier. Might that change on RP?

It isn't likely to be any different if you're using the same underlying network, just with a different MVNO. RP doesn't do anything to block hotspot; it just isn't officially supported.

I'm using a rooted Moto G4 Plus. I once edited the build.prop to remove checking with the carrier for tethering entitlement. I forgot what it is, but you should be able to Google it.

I'm on Red Pocket's Verizon service. I contacted them on chat to add hotspot/tethering. They told me it's only supported on iPhones, but I asked them to just enable it and let me try. They did so, and the built-in native hotspot is working fine.

It seems that RP is fine with it, but they just aren't willing to deal with tech support if it doesn't work. I'm also not sure if it would work if my phone wasn't rooted. But my guess is that PDANet probably will work.

I would buy one month just to test it and then if it worked I would go for the yearly plans, which are a much better deal, especially whenever Ebay does their next discount deal.

I know this is a tad off the topic of red Pocket, but it's worth mentioning that Sprint's free year deal is still out there, and it includes 10GB hotspot which is officially supported, no tricks needed. My mom uses it for her laptop at her vacation spot which has no other internet service and it works fine.
