Question Straight Talk Call Forwarding - SIM is AT&T

Just talked to Straight Talk support chat.

They told my for BYOP there is no support for call forwarding.

Tried both the **004*#/*004*# methods and got an error when using the phone app in android and when using the dialpad got the following message:

    MMI Code started
    Call Forwarding
Connection Problem for Invalid MMI Code

Could have sworn this worked at some point in the past.

Tried on two separate phones. (Moto X and Pixel 2)

Is this the sorry state of affairs at this point?

Huh. It's working (at least still enabled) for me, but I've had this number for > 5 years now. What's curious is I have a Net10 on AT&T account (i.e., pretty much the same people all around) and I can't do CCF via either method (neither "**004..." nor setting it via "Phone->Settings->More Settings->Call Forwarding" on Android). Considering I get 10GB on ST and only 8GB on Net10, you've given me the incentive to port over. Carlos Slim gets his pesos in any case

OK, so get this- a handset I've had since forever was on ST/AT&T, and CCF is not only enabled, you can see it changed to my GV number in the (Android) "Phone" app if you look under "Forwarding Settings". But another handset that's been on Net10/AT&T forever just got ported to ST/AT&T (for the extra 2GB of data, mostly) and I'd tried to do CCF to my GV number as well- and as reported here, it failed (and isn't visible in "Forwarding Settings", all showing "Turned Off").

After I'd ported over, I had a chat session with ST's CS, and asked them to turn off my VM (so that when people call me on my GV number and I don't pick up, GV will pick it up vs. ST's VM service). I'd also asked about CCF, and he said he couldn't do it.

Thing is, if you call that carrier number and let it ring out, it goes to GV Voicemail. I'm not sure if this is a remnant of the CCF coming over from when it was on Net10, or if CCF claims it's not working, yet actually does (and in the spirit of "If it ain't broke ..." I don't plan on experimenting with it to find out ) TBH, literally nobody but ST has my carrier number, and maybe I should actually keep CCF disabled as I get a lot of "Neighbor SPAM" calls at my carrier number and there's no point of those going anywhere except to a blackhole anyway.

Ugh...any more recent updates on this? I'm guessing not...

I have a ST ATT line from waaay back that's still active. Thing is, it was provisioned before VoLTE was a thing, & I definitely can't get VoLTE to work with my existing SIM (I've tried...IMS registration never happens and I suspect existing UICC lacks populated ISIM directory).

And with ATT's UMTS shutdown creeping up, I wanted to test and see what it would take to get VoLTE working through ST ATT. So I bought a new throwaway SIM that I activated a new line of service on for a month to play with (so as not to put my existing line at risk), and sure enough: VoLTE works. So, that's cool.

What's very NOT cool, however, is that CCF seems to be blocked on this new line. None of the MMI codes for setting the forwarding number return anything but failures/errors, and the codes for checking the status always return "Not forwarded".

So now I'm concerned that although my old line appears to have been "grandfathered" in when it comes to CCF, if I were to move my existing number over to a new SIM, I'd gain VoLTE only to lose CCF, which I rely on.

I hate wireless carriers so much...

Ken's Net10 > ST experience is concerning (since it's all TF anyway), but I'm wondering if maybe keeping the number within ST and just moving it to a new SIM might avoid the risk??

Maybe if I wait it out long enough, another solution will make itself obvious before I'm forced to change SIM cards.

So, interestingly, after getting my number transferred to a new ST ATT SIM (where I now have working VoLTE), I can confirm that I am no longer able to activate or make any changes to CCF settings from any of the phones I've previously had no problems doing it from in the past.

But if I stick the same SIM into an iPhone of all things, I can activate CCF and change the number using the normal GSM SS codes, no problem.

I should note that I did activate the SIM in an iPhone, so maybe that has something to do with it? It's bizarre, though, for sure...
