I can't think of a single compelling reason to switch from my X to the XS.

If that's compelling enough for your needs, cool, but nothing I've seen is enough for me to replace the X I've only had for a few months.

It’s your mistake that you bought an iPhone right before the new ones were released. Nice try.

The one reason I can see is if you need the dual SIM capability -- since if you normally carry two phones it will allow you to "combine" them into one.

I suppose some people might think the larger screen of the Max is a "compelling reason," as well.

That’s the only compelling reason I can even imagine apart from wanting the latest.

Only if you want dual SIM.
Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters. -- Daniel Webster

Funny you ask since I know a few people who are going to do this.

The main reasons I know of are 1) if you want a bigger phone so are going to order the Xs Max, 2) You need the Dual SIM capability, 3) You have T-Mobile and need Band 71 for the improved coverage (or, I suppose, any carrier and want/need Gb speeds and 4x4 MIMO), 4) the improved camera is worth the money to you, 5) you have the money and always want the "newest and best" -- particularly if you participate in Apple's or your carrier's upgrade program.

I like new phones and have upgraded every year since my 3G. That said, I’m waiting to get a good look at the Xr, switching from my current 256Gb X. Less money and a slightly larger screen with mostly the same features I’d want. I’ll put them side by side in the store and decide if the screen downgrade is a deal breaker or not. I couldn’t get by with 64Gb on the X, but 256G is more than I need, especially for the $$$. The 128Gb is the memory sweet spot for me, especially at $799 with the Xr.
