Post 10 GB Plans Return to Ontario

I've got pricing... and a plot twist!

So you know that kooky thing that happens when there's a strong local carrier in a specific market, and Canada's Big Three somehow manage to lower their egregious rates of service to match? Well, it's happening again, and this time in Ontario—actually, just Ottawa.

This past summer Videotron extended their service area to include our nation's capital; now they're including that city in a beta-test of their new sub-brand, called Fizz. Monthly data plans are as follows:

    $35 for 1 GB
    $42 for 2 GB
    $46 for 4 GB
    $49 for 6 GB
    $56 for 8 GB

All plans include unlimited Canada-wide calling, unlimited texting, voicemail and call display.

And wow, this is so unexpected... Bell, Rogers and Telus have suddenly descended on the Ottawa region with an uncharacteristically affordable data plan of their own for Virgin, Fido and Koodo. Basically, each of them are offering 10 GB for $56/month. Some lucky person on Red Flag Deals managed to snag an extra 2GB and a discount to only $50!

Until Videotron and Fizz extend their service area to the rest of Ontario it's unlikely that those 10 GB plans will follow. But if you're planning a trip to Ottawa anytime soon, you might want to visit a Fido, Koodo or Virgin Mobile outlet—unlike Videotron, you won't be roaming when you get back home!
