    carrier designators

Is there a list of carrier designators when searching phone models? I know L212VL is probably verizon, but how about L157BG or XT1920DL ??

For a while, we could tell from the TF-branded smartphone model number that "V" uses Verizon, "A" uses AT&T, and "T" uses T-mobile. But when they threw in "B" and "D", those clues went out the window.

Turk does a good job of listing the actual service provider with each phone listing..

I often use Turk's listings as a guide, and not always sure how he comes up with it. The full "TF" model number will have the carrier, but is not always available. The retail boxes have it. SIM card model number also.

The old "G" turned into "BL". Always GSM and you still don't know if AT&T or T-Mo without the full "TF"model number. "DL" can be anything, but is almost always Verizon on TF branded models actually put our for sale.

another way to tell what network the phone runs on is to look at the map on the front of the box, if the map is red - verizon, orange - AT&T and pink - T mobile

The carrier coverage map on the retail box used to be blue for AT&T. Did they change that recently with the new box design?

That is still not any help if you don't have access to the box. You still may need the complete TF model number which is on the box and on some seller sites like Best Buy. HSN, QVC. The TF website never gives you that number. It is not on the phone either.

Orange is used on AT&T's own coverage map.
