    Waiver of $30 Upgrade Fee

Well off contract and payments with 2 phones more than 5 years old and I was looking to upgrade 1 line to an iPhone XR and the other to an iPhone 8.

I had a chat transcript Saturday where the agent stated "The upgrade fee would be added in checkout. I would be happy to do your order on my end and waive the $30 upgrade fee however." Now, I didn't complete the order because I had to go get an old iPhone 5s for the $100 trade-in promotion. So tonight I was in another chat and this rep told me he could only waive the $30 upgrade fee for one of the phones, the iPhone 8. "Yes the $100 is a trade in promo, and I am sorry I am not able to waive that upgrade fee at this time
    You
How can 1 agent tell me they can and you cannot?
    You
I do have the transcript of that chat.
    Verizon
Can you give me one second please?
    You
    Certainly
    Verizon
    What device are you getting?
    You
Oh, thought you could see my cart. One iPhone XR and one iPhone 8
    Verizon
Ok I am able to waive the upgrade on the 8, but unfortunately we cant waive the fee for the XR as its a newly released device"

Have others experienced this? Aren't the upgrade fees routinely waived?

"If I don't get the upgrade fee waived, then I'll be switching to Sprint who will upgrade my activation fee."--Competition is great,

I am just wondering why the second agent said he couldn't waive the upgrade fee on a newly released device.

I think they know that if you're willing to switch to Sprint and their lousy network you'd have done that to get a cheaper plan a long time ago.

Go to Sprint to make your point? That's a great idea!

I was with Verizon for years previously and still know lots of people with Verizon and I have never heard of the upgrade fee getting waived before, and I always asked with every phone upgrade I had. Verizon likes their money.
