Maybe this has come up before - I'll read through this whole thread soon .
Anyways I signed up with the IMEI for a former TracPhone I bought cheap off of fleaBay and FreeUp said I was good to go. SIM arrived today and I inserted it and I get "Invalid SIM card". I suspect this phone is CDMA and not GSM anyways - doesn't FreeUp check the IMEI ?

No. FreeUp can use any AT&T or unlocked phone. Most TF phones are locked to TF related MVNOs unless specific conditions are met including 12 months use on TF.

Yeah, guess they don't check the IMEI you register :-/ . Anyways I'll find some use for it. I presently have two LycaMobile and 6 FreedomPop devices.

This should work no prob for the free plan?

BTW LycaMobile gives me unlimited free incoming texts - do incoming texts on FreeUp count against your 1000?

I know that any AT&T branded prepaid phone, locked to AT&T or unlocked, would work. How about AT&T branded postpaid phones that are still under contract?

Can you receive MMS texts when using FreeUp's free plan? Also, on their website FreeUp says you can order a free sim card but doesn't disclose shipping charges. Anyone know if they still charge $5 shipping for each sim?

I'm thinking of porting to FreeUp from Lyca.

No mms on the text. You can get them on WiFi. Yes they still charge $5

Are you 100% sure you can get MMS via WiFi with FreeUp?

I'm not disputing you; just asking.

My only experience with true carrier MMS was on the Vzw network several years ago, and MMS always required cellular data to be on and working back then.

Postpaid phones should work too, as their network lock is also AT&T.

I just sent an MMS text to my FreeUp (free plan) phone which is on wifi hotspot. I receive a text saying "content unavailable", and am unable to download (although I am given the option) anything over wifi.

Thanks. That's what I expected would happen.

Yes, any text ( or phone call) sent or received counts against your 1000 limit.

Sent from my moto x4 using HoFo mobile app
