LG306G display disappears within maybe 15 seconds.

I only have this phone as an emergency tool and consequently never use it and have not become familiar with it.

I have not discovered why the display doesn't stay present and would appreciate any operational advice.

I'm not sure this is what you mean, but try Settings -> Display -> Backlight Timer. There you have a range of choices, from 15 seconds to 60 seconds. Maybe yours is set to 15 seconds? If so, try increasing the amount of time and see if that solves your problem.
