How does unlock service for MetroPCS work?

I'm looking at a few ebay unlock service and it looks like for MetroPCS they unlock through the app.

This is very different from entering the unlock code, I'd assume there is some algorithm to generate the unlock code from the IMEI, which is how normal unlocking is done. So how does MetroPCS eBay unlock service work? Do they hack MetroPCS server so that you can unlock through the app?

Mostly importantly is this app unlock really permanent?

I don’t use an eBay vendor, but, yes - algorithm and permanent.

As to how they access Metro’s database(s)? I’ve never asked. Sort of “don’t ask, don’t tell”. Just assume something shady occurs, which results in your phone being unlocked.

You didn’t mention what kind of phone you have, but FYI Apple doesn’t use unlock codes the carrier just notifies Apple. Can’t speak for how Android works, but it’s probably a mess given all the different manufacturers.

I know this because I unlocked two iPhone through T-Mo this week... super easy!

Using an eBay unlock service for 2 LG-K20’s was super easy, pain free and efficient.

Simply provided the IMEI to the vendor, waited a couple of days, received an email unlock was complete, used the Metro unlock app and it was done.
