T-Mobile has a streak of coming out on top in Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence reports, and today it’s been confirmed that that streak has continued for another quarter.

Ookla says that T-Mobile had the fastest 4G LTE data speeds for the fourth quarter of 2018, making that the 20th straight quarter that T-Mo has had the speediest data speeds according to Ookla data. For Q4 2018, T-Mobile posted an average 4G LTE download speed of 33.4Mbps and an average 4G LTE upload speed of 12.1Mbps.

To compare, Verizon came in second with a download speed of 32.1Mbps and an upload speed of 10.3Mbps, and AT&T finished third with a download speed of 30.6Mbps and an upload speed of 8.2Mbps. Sprint rounded things out with a download speed of 27.7Mbps and an upload speed of 3.5Mbps.
“The Internet wasn’t meant to be metered in bits and bytes, so it’s insane that wireless companies are still making you buy it this way. The rate plan is dead — it’s a fossil from a time when wireless was metered by every call or text.” John Legere 1/5/2017

Once the merger is complete, they'll have difficulty keeping this streak going when they average in Sprint's poor score.

Interesting possibility. It’s remarkable Sprint has been so consistently bad.

Or just their number of subscribers on the same network.

What's so bad about Sprint's 27.7 Mbps vs T-Mo's 33.4? That's not much difference, and nothing anyone other than a speed tester would notice.

Not sure since Ookla is a nation wide speed test that isn’t based on the top 125 Metro areas like Rootmetric. Since Verizon and AT&T will focus their 5G where they will deploy mmWave that will include some 5G spectrum in the mmWave in About 25 Metro areas. 5G is about 20% to 25% faster than 4G LTE.

Sprint hasn’t come close to deploying all their Band 41 that unused spectrum could be moved quickly to T- Mobile. However T-Mobile is going to have a lot of Band 71 deployment by the time of the merger. Not saying Verizon or AT&T won’t win a Ookla speed record but the new T-Mobile just has a major advantage of deploying 5G Nationwide by 2020.

You just know that Neville Ray has his fingers on the dial just waiting for the merger to be official before putting to use and allocating all of that mid band spectrum.

I picture it more as a Staples Easy button to Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war on the industry.

This is Ookla talking, so to me this is the most accurate prestigious award you could receive, because it isn't subjective.

It's enough of a difference to keep Sprint in fourth place and could move T-Mobile out of the #1 spot if those scores are avearged in each quarter.
