WiFi calling on old Gold plan , does it eat my minutes ?

    Hi
I put my old Gold plan sim in the free Moto E5 play that I got last week.
    It has WiFi calling offered,

So if I use WiFi calling will it eat my minutes ?

The old Gold plan is $100 for 1000 minutes and 12 months and no data. Yes I know it's not the best deal but I normally just have the Gold sim in a flip phone , and have a tablet for internet,

    Thanks for your ideas

Been a while since I used it (in an old LG Optimus T), but yes it used plan minutes, and I have the Legacy Gold Rewards plan on that line.

Wi-Fi calling as a feature from a major carrier is to give you enhanced coverage, to compensate for poor cellular network coverage. Not to give you a way to make free calls. That's for 3rd party apps.

    Thanks for the explanation,
I have very good signal at my house so I guess that I do not need it.

WiFi calling is also useful to avoid roaming charges (in country or out of country).

    See this short thread: https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...n-LG-Optimus-T

It is only 12 messages. I asked a question that mentioned the Optimus T and others gave information about wifi calling and the updated technology required to use it. It no longer works on the Optimus T. I got a new device for Gold Rewards.

Wifi calling is a boon when I am visiting in the boondocks, but it does eat minutes.

A key item in the old post is this link to detailed info on the T-mo site: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-33925
