NEXUS 6 deaf on Band 5

My home network in Canada does not use Band 5 (850MHz)
However when I am roaming in the US, AT&T is the roaming partner.

In most areas I roam, AT&T uses 3G service on 850MHz for voice calls as my home carrier and AT&T do not support VoLTE with the Nexus 6.

I am finding that my handset has a 40dB de-sensitivity problem on this band. Strangely, only on this band. I get great 4G data coverage with the handset but if I attempt a voice call, the network handsover to Band 5 where the handset loses network connection and the voice call fails. The handset eventually registers on a different band and presumes data service. If I am within a few hundred yards of the tower with maximum possible receive power, I can successfully make voice calls. On my home network, voice calls are successfully completed on a 3G carrier on Band 4 (2100/1700 MHz) so this is not a problem there.

If I put the SIM card in a spare Galaxy S5 handset, I observe nearly +40dB additional receive power on Band 5 over what I see with the Motorola Nexus 6 handset.

I am using an android app called Network Cell Info on both co-located handsets to make the receive power measurements.

Does anyone know if there is a remedy for this problem?
The Nexus 6 is running Nougat 7.1.1 (N6F27M stock Build number) and is not rooted.

    Thanks.

My Nexus 6P is running 8.1.1 and wondering if your older version is the problem. Update and see what happens.

    Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately, Nougat 7.1.1 was the last factory release available for the Nexus 6.
If I root it, I think there are some Oreo releases that some have had success with on the Nexus 6.
I'm hesitant to try it. Do you think that might solve, as it is not a factory tested release?

Humm, since I'm in US, the last update I got on the phone is the 8.1. Wondering if you had a US sim that would upgrade it and solve your problem? I do see two versions of the 6P with one having 32 bands and the other 25 (mine is the 32GB model): https://www.frequencycheck.com/devices/google-nexus-6p

OP is talking about the 6 not the 6P. Way different.
