I currently have a SM-S320VL Samsung Sky with a TMFL sim card.
Dailysale has a S8 Plus 64G (Refurbished) for $200 for today only. (Refurbished). It doesn't come with a sim card but could I take my current sim out of my Sky and put it into the S8 and get TMFL on the S8? I also have two new, never used TMFL sims that I bought from a very nice guy here on the forums.
No clue what Android version the S8 has, I'm trying to find out. I seriously doubt that it's Pie. I don't really NEED a new phone but the updated storage with 4G of ram, the display, etc would be nice.
Anyone know if in my scenario I could get the S8 to be TMFL?
1. You can try swapping the SIM from the Sky to the S8. It SHOULD work, but you'll need to keep the Sky around because the SIM is coupled with the Sky's IMEI in TF system. If you sell/give away the Sky and the new owner activates with a new SIM, TF will deactivate the original SIM (being used in your S8) and suddenly you lose service/phone number/balances. As far as TMFL, TF still has the SIM coupled to the Sky, which has TMFL, then you'll still get TMFL when adding a card.
2. You can run the S8's IMEI through TF/VZ whitelist check (by going through the Activation process for a BYOP phone to be used with TF/Verizon; you don't need to complete the process). If it says the S8 is compatible, then you can activate a new BYOP TMFL TF/VZ SIM with a transfer of service from the Sky to it. That will make the Sky free-and-clear for resale/give away. Use Chat to do the transfer/activation.
So I think what I'm hearing is my best bet (if I spring for it) is to put one of the unused SIMs (that I got from you I believe) into the S8 and when I transfer service from Sky-S8 I'd be at TMFL on both of 'em actually... How'd I know you'd be the one to answer? (Rhetorical question).
Your Sky uses TF/Verizon service. The Note in the ad for the S8 says "Note: Compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, Metro PCS, Cricket Wireless, Straight Talk, TracFone and other GSM carriers. NOT Compatible with Sprint or Verizon service ". So, swapping the SIM from the Sky is a no-go. If you're OK with switching service to TF/AT&T, then you can activate a BYOP TF/AT&T SIM (without needing to do a whitelist check) with a transfer from the Sky. Transferring across carriers has more risk with losing balances, so use Chat if you're going to switch carrier.
Note that's a refurd, and I'm guessing seller refurb, not OEM.
They mention the S8+ in the description and even some of the pics.
No mention of condition/grade.
If they can't separate the S8 and S8+ beter I'm not sure intrustnthem to refurbish.
Yeah, I was fully aware it was a refurb. The killer was no Verizon support and I'm VERY grateful to hpham for pointing that out as I totally missed it! I've bought a LOT of refurbished items and have never had a problem. They typically look like new, may have a small scratch or something - whoopie. And look at it this way; a new product comes off of the line - boxed and shipped. There are many reasons for something to be labled as refurbished but typically they are tested to ensure they function correctly. Not a bit afraid of 'em.
