But, does checkout show the extra goodies? I can add a promo code, but there are no changes to the actual order. Only thing it says is that the promo code was added.

You have to add what you want from below under More for you Phone, to the checkout, and then remove what's in check out that you don't want. Add the $8 service add-on data, remove smartphone plan. Nothing changes when you add promo code. It stays at $8 service add-on with final price $8.00. It should state "Promo code was applied".
But you should receive 1.5GB in your account, added to the data total, for the $8. Which is 1GB for $8 + 500MB for the promo code.

At least that's how it's worked for me. Twice on two separate transactions.
Promo code should be good for the month.

If you have a Tracfone branded phone/iphone, first see if the $8 1GB add-on comes up in the check out, below "More for your Phone".
If so, add $8 one to check out, remove the $10 one, then apply promo code to it and you can get 1.5GB for $8.
I've done it twice, two separate times (important), with my phone and got 3GB (1.5GB + 1.5GB) for $16.00, a $5.33 a GB rate.

You are awesome! I didn’t get the $8 offer but my data oblivious kid no longer needs someone to give her a hotspot to catch Pokémon. I also fixed it so she can’t watch videos in the car.

    4. You still have the native cellular number to use for things like WeChat, WhatsApp, etc., that insist on using only the phone number that is native to the device to log in.
I use my GV number with WhatsApp.

The biggest limitation I have with GV these days is very poor caller ID (through my Obihai).

I have 3 Simple Mobile Moto E5's that were rebranded from Simple Mobile to Tracfone. I bought it earlier for GSM with AT&T Sim. I can see it to buy on the T-Mobile and Verizon sims.

That's what mine did and I did get the extra 500 MB.

I have 4 phones in my account

    CDMA - BYOP
    CDMA - BYOP
    GSM - BYOP
    TF - Sunrise

I can get the $8 add on with the Sunrise but not with any of the BYOP phones

Also none of the BYOP phones will give me the $49.99 add on

    I've tried Firefox and IE

It looks like we have enough data points to point to TF messing with BYOP customers. The reduced options available to BYOP sims could be more incompetence on the part of TF app/web developers that will get ironed out over time. If not, for very low usage customers, it will double the cost to keep a phone active.

Much thanks to everyone for mentioning the 14223 code and the offers page. I wouldn't have known about this otherwise. I bought got the 1gb offer with the free 500mb added, paid $10. I didn't try to get it multiple times as it does state at the bottom that offers are one-time use only and I don't want to risk Tracfone taking away the data, text, and minutes I've been accumulating for a decade or so. I'm quite happy with 1.5gb for $10. $5 saved is $5 saved.
