    Will prepaid get 5G e?

I remember when prepaid didn’t get LTE enabled until about a year after postpaid, will prepaid get 5G e off the bat?

Lol... Nobody will for 3+ years. 5G is a unicorn and will be until for several years.

    5G E is not 5G.
ATT started to have a 5G E icon appear on 4G LTE phones when they are connected to multiple 4G LTE bands.
I'm not sure if prepaid will get 5G E, but it's more of a marketing scam.

Since it is just a label, and nothing more advanced, I would say yes.
iPhone X is my current primary phone. I have older model iPhones and Moto phones available on other lines. Currently prepaid, though would consider postpaid on right plan.

I’d rather have 5G e, who even cares about voice anymore.

I have 5G E on my ATT prepaid line that is a Verizon Samsung 8+ phone that pops back to 4g for voice. I have a 2nd ATT prepaid line that gets only 4g on a iPhone 6s that does get VOLTE on calls. So who knows how VOLTE is pushed out.

Why does it matter what the icon on your phone says?

It's literally nothing more than that at this point. If you have a phone that has the capabilities to use carrier aggregation and higher order modulation it will use them whether or not you're on prepaid or postpaid.

While VoLTE, whether you care about it or not, is actually something that, arguably, is quantifiably better than 3G/UMTS voice.

Strange to me that so many people care more about the illusion of something better than actually HAVING something better...

Myself, I'm fine with 4G LTE and as long as my calls go through I'm not concerned whether it uses 3G or 4G.

Those few million of us left who still have to communicate verbally with other humans. A dying breed indeed.

For the first, it is not ATT branded which explains it. If the iPhone 6s doesn't work with LTE, I don't see how you are getting VoLTE. And why isn't it working with LTE?

IMHO the OP's question should actually be "Will my prepaid phone get a firmware update to change the 4G LTE icon to 5G e?"

    From Digital Trends:

When is 4G not 4G? When it’s 5G, of course.

In 2018, AT&T announced plans to rebrand potentially millions of 4G LTE smartphones to make it appear as though they are on 5G networks — explaining that many technologies deeply linked to the faster 5G networks mobile carriers plan to roll out over the next few months have already been introduced on the company’s existing 4G network. Now, it has begun rolling out the rebrand, with the Samsung Galaxy A8 Active, LG V30, and LG V40 all showing the new 5G E logo.

AT&T has even managed to get Apple on board — iPhones that are on AT&T and updated to iOS 12.1.2 will get the new 5G E logo when they’re connected to AT&T’s so-called 5G Evolution network. So far, the logo is only showing up in the iOS 12.1.2 beta, but it’ll likely roll out as part of the iOS 12.1.2 update when it’s ready for consumers.

Of course Prepaid won't get it...

Have to have something to show that Post Paid is better and faster.

I’m right there with ya buddy! I use my iPhone for voice calls quite often so reliability for voice is important to me.

I still don’t understand how AT&T gets away with this and why Apple is following along.
