analog modem over VOIP or other landline replacment

I have a device where it's estimated to cost 650$-1000$ to add an ethernet interface to. ( A vericomm / orenco) septic monitoring system. Currently it has a telephone interface that's already wired. However we have transitioned from DSL to Fiber, and no longer have a POTS line. From what I've read the baud rate might be something like 9600 bps. But regardless I'm interested if anyone has experience or recommendations using this setup. I understand that there is some fragility due to differences between a POST line and a TCP/IP network.

Then I'm interested if anyone knows of any specific differences or advantages in the voip hardware platforms that may make this work. It's for a home setup so I don't need more than one line.

If you have broadband Internet an Analog Telephone Adapter should do the trick. Magic Jack, Ooma, Vonage, Obihai are examples. They provide POTs-like service over broadband Internet.

The Obi has the advantage of having free service if you put a Google Voice number on it. An Obi-200* is about $35. I have been using one for several years for home POTs-like voice service and it works great. I have used it with my fax machine and that worked fine too. Newegg is a good place to check for Obi prices.

*I recommend not trying to cheap out and buy a used Obi less than the 200. They are not supported and may not work with Google Voice anymore.
