That would be worth a try. Should work.

Can't hurt to try, but they might deny it when the IMEI is entered into the data base and AT&T will ask for the SIM #. Best wishes to you, already40.

All I've ever provided was the IMEI as a non-customer and unlocked a dozen phones.

Fair enough, and I worked as an At&t CS rep for almost 10 years. If it works, fantastic. Just offering my opinion based on experience.

So did they unlock over the phone, or did the process change with the site? Just curious.

Every time we got an unlock request, the customer was referred to the internet site to request the unlock. We did not have the ability to unlock phones ourselves.

No, you say I'm not an at&t customer and they just ask for the IMEI for verification.

    Using the AT&T portal?

Because, when I use that portal on an AT&T-branded phone that I just got off Swappa, set up on AT&T postpaid service, the portal says "not until you've had it on our service for at least 60 days".

So it's your position that you have taken "a dozen phones"--AT&T branded--and had that same AT&T portal unlock them for you:

    a) instantly, and
    b) without you even being a customer?

(sniff sniff) I smell something here.

I’ve unlocked three Android phones (but the last one was over two years ago) using the ATT portal. All three phones were ATT branded, prepaid, and unlocked right out of the box, before inserting a SIM card. I used the “non-customer” option.

Exactly, you just say you aren't a customer. If you really are a customer of the mothership then you will have to wait. I unlocked my z2 force shortly after buying it back in February.
